Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I just was informed about this site with contact info for the Ombudsmans and I wanted to pass it on to you ladies in case you ever had an emergency you could find it instead of tryin to dig through old comments!

Hello ladies  my name is Becky and my son is currently on the Lincoln, this is his first deployment. so if anyone has any info please let me know. My sailor is not up on everything thats going on.  How often should I expect e mails and call from the ship....does he need a calling card, if he does,which one is the best to send him. He seems to be recieving all his packages. I try to get one sent every couple weeks. Should I sent them more ofter.  Thanks again ladies for all your help.

 

 

Hey Becky! Nice to meet you! emails and calls vary between every sailor, and dept. Also they shut down communications as well so that will hamper communication. One thing I have learned is to never judge your communication compared to someone else's bc you will end up hurt and angry. He can get a calling card on the ship its called a ship to shore calling card. Its the only one that will work on the ship. There is another discussion posted a few below this with information on how to reload those calling cards if need be. I think every few weeks is good honestly they have VERY little room. Too often and they will just have to try and eat it all to make room for other stuff. It might be better if you post down on the actual wall then you can really get a feel for just how helpful and supportive this group truly is! People check the wall more often and drop a few lines when they are on.

Thank you Megan, Im not upset or angry by not getting a email from him. I realize they are very busy working hard for us.  Im just new to this and really dont know what to expect.  Im sure theyve tightened up communication, with all the attention theyve been getting on the news. I appreciate you being supportive. I do have another question that you may be able to answer...I dont know his rank , his address is airman but hes a fueler and goes by ABF aswell,so when I enter his rank for the ombudman Im not sure what to use. I also believe hes a E1or2.  Thanks again for all your help.   Becky

Welcome :) I just feel so bad when ppl ask when the last time I got an email and I just cringe if I had gotten one more recently then their sailor had sent one to them. tbh its really varies a ton based on what their job is, what their shift is, their dept etc. If they are on flight deck they are generally super busy and its harder for them to get an email out, and there are a few other shops that are way super busy. Email has been a little tight bc of that issues and a sailor from the USS Vinson just passed away so they shut stuff off bc of that for awhile. and its been spotty today I got a huge chunk of emails from my husband saying hello?? what are you doing why wont you respond? lol

 

ok his rank is the E1/E2 part. His rate would be the ABF part. the easy way to remember is rank is what paygrade they are and its a single letter with a number and then the rate is the job and its usually 2-3 letters. :) hope that helped out some!!

Thanks that info (rank and rate) did help, Im sooo glad your heard from your husband. Im sure Zach will email when he's able, I feel bad for him because when he opens his emails, hes gonna have a ton :). I'll just keep emailing and sending treats. I know they are working hard. I did hear about the sailor on the Carl Vinson. I thought of his family. Well thanks again for all your help. Take care.

 

I guess I'm a lucky guy! My daughter just arrived on board this past Thursday. I got a call then and another again tonight. Her email was not set up yet...probably today. Said she was "just chillin" in the hanger area until she got her flight deck physical...lol. Working 12 hour shifts.
