No one ever wants to be second.   Not unless it means they will be getting showered with love by Molly moms for the second time!

The USS Cape St. George is our FIRST ever SECOND time adoption!  You ladies did such a great job the first time that they are back for more.  Our first time supporting the Cape was a Christmas adoption in 2010.  Over 50% of the crew is new since then, so even though the ship is being adopted a second time, many of the sailors will be first-time recipients of our love.

The Cape St. George is a guided missile cruiser based out of San Diego and is deployed as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to the U.S. 5th Fleet  as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. They left on their current deployment on December 7 and have already heard that they will be extended.   Their theme is "Dragon Slayers."  Their moto is "Always Victorious."

I did some research and found out that April is “Humor Month,” so the theme for this adoption is “humor.”  When I asked the POC about this theme, he said the crew will certainly be ready for some humor by the time our boxes start arriving.  So let’s try to bring smiles to their faces and laughter to their day!  Here are few ideas to get us started:

  • Clean joke books
  • Comics from local newspapers
  • Movie/sitcom dvd’s with a comedy theme
  • Silly putty
  • Funny ties
  • Those Groucho Marx fake glasses with the furry eyebrows
  • Knock-knock jokes from kids .  I thought this would be great for groups of kids…they can write down all their favorite corny jokes that we parents  get tired of hearing over and over =]
  • “Gag” gifts
  • A collection of humorous stories/pictures from the internet or your own family

Their specific requests are:

  • Magazines
  • Toiletries
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Snacks
  • Microwaveable food
  • Candy
  • DVD’s and popcorn for “movie nights”
  • Phone cards—The chaplain has requested phone cards and has said that he is willing to distribute them on an “as needed” basis.  There will be a separate address for the chaplain listed when shipping time comes.
  • Pillowcases: This group is able to receive pillowcases, so pillowcase moms, you are on duty!

We are also going to have some extra support and love from the Makin Island moms this month.  As a way to “pay it forward” for our adoption of their loved ones last month, they are going to hold a special packing party for the Cape St. George!  Thanks, Makin moms, you rock!!!

The male/female count is 350 male, and 6 female.

Here is a list of what we need and what we have so far:

Why was the Kleenex dancing?

It has a little boogie in it.

...sorry couldn't resist.

:)

Along with the playing cards I was going to pick up some playing cards that are games, like monoply, & clue.  Trivia card games and etc.  I did those for the christmas boxes.  My son said cards and games that are the size of cards are really popular.  So I was going to pick up about 15 of them to go along with the playing cards so they can change up the games and send them just in a box to distribute.  Along with goodies and some other things.  I plan to go shopping soon.  Let me know if that's a good idea.

Jeff's Mom

I can't afford it right now but I know they like believe it or not old maid and go fish and memory old games from their child hood.  But a new game that has been a hit on my sons ship has been Phase 10 if anyone can send a couple of decks of those I know those would be a hit.

I can't ship this month but will be able to next month.

Peeps if you can find them would be good to ship also you know they always enjoy eating those.

Take care everyone.

Sally.

Thanks for the info and I thought only my son liked peeps I so get him those every year now I have others to send to.  Thanks!  You just made my day plus I wrote down the phase 10 so I won't forget.

OK Ladies from all of us ( MAS warehouses)  ha ha ha

Here is what we all are sending bulk

800 energy drinks ( thats enough for 2 each i suspect)

350 puzzle pages

400 cookies  ( a store in my town gave us oreo, fig newtons, and nutter butters) for about 5 cents each ---so I thought cases and cases for 20.00 ummmmm i think the moms would vote yes ( so I bought them)  Anyway so they can go to the next few adoptions from all of us

Florida has some toothbrushes they can back fill with whatever we dont come up with in here if you need or want

I think Pat said she has coffee ---but I will defer to her to see what exactly if thats big bags or individual.

Also we are suppose to get getting 2 pallets of biofreeze from a group called support our troops ~will let you know when those arrive. See if ya'all want to send some of those

Now as for me ----Im heading out to the dollar tree to see if I can find some funny mustaches and that non tear toilet paper again

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE

This is great!  Non-tear tp...never heard of that before, but it conjures up some interesting images.... haha!

Are Peeps are boy-thing??  My sailor LOVES them too!  I was going to send some but his wife and daughter made him an Easter basket containing just Peeps!!  She and I don't care for them, but my boys surely do!

I just find this funny ...  :)

Those are wonderful ideas!!!  You go, girl  :)

Chowchow,  were you planning on sending playing cards?  I have 120 decks packed and ready to go that I get from the river boat.  So if you haven't bought decks of cards don't spend your money on them.  I do think the card games would be nice.

No I wasn't going to send the playing cards just the card games, because I think that is great you have the playing cards covered.  That is just wonderful.  Thanks!

Ok all you gamblers out there as I had told Pam, all the casinos can only use their decks of cards one time and the will give them away if you ask. And the card playing guys love get casino cards. I am working on a couple River boats to see what else they might have for us
