Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi Moms,
I'm new to this website and am so glad to be here. My son got to Great Lakes last night and called me about 12:30 am. He sounded shell shocked. I am missing him so much, but I know he is in good hands. I look forward to participating here and getting to know some other moms who are in the same boat. I have a question. When can we send letters and is there an address to send letters to? Oh, this is going to be hard.

Hi chantel, I'm a mother of an only child too. My son dosen't leave till June 13 after graduation. I'm having a hard time now and he hasn't left yet. It's very hard to let go and hard to think that he will not be home that night or see him in his room. It's not like he is leaving to college where you can pick up a phone or drive to have lunch, this is a big adjustment and trying to figure out what do I do now.I don't know your story, but I have been there as his preschool teacher to his bus driver. So I pray for you and your son. It's a blessing to have n4m to go to.

Wow, got the "kid in a box" today with the sweetest (albeit brief note from my son). I feel so much better just seeing his handwriting. I was really surprised to get it so soon. He just arrived at Great Lakes Monday night and it's just Thursday ..2 days really, since he didn't get to GL until midnight Monday night. Anyway, I appreciate all your lovely posts. It's amazing how universal the feelings we have for our kids is.

Hi my son is now at Great Lakes he arrived March 6th also. His recruiter gave me his address. I got my box today. Your right it is nice to see his handwriting its the first thing I thought.

Give it another week. If you don't get a letter from him with his address, call his recruiter and get his address and go ahead and send him a letter.

My son just left Sunday, March 11th. He is in Chicago. Just can't wait to hear from him again. Don't get me wrong I am very proud of him, just miss him.

Hi Daniela,
I too am new here and my son arrived at Great Lakes last night and called me around 11:30 last night. I thought it was just me being an over protective mom when I heard how he sounded. I've been crying since he left, I have tears in my eyes as I'm typing this. I hope we can stay in touch and maybe our guys will be in the same division. And I concur, this is going to be extremely hard.

We have a Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie (click on this, it'll take you to right page). You'll find everything you need to get started. Videos, PDF files of boot camp processing days, links to all the important groups such as the Boot Camp Moms group. Additionally, you'll find tips on how to use this site. Keep in mind the videos and PDF files may take some time to download the first time you try it. It'll look like nothing is happening. Be patient. If you lose the page, don't worry. You can always find it by going to the MAIN page for this site (click the MAIN tab on the above menu bar). . BTW, you all have a personal page. Click the MY PAGE tab on above menu bar to access your page anytime - you should do it at least once a day to see if you have any messages from other moms on your comment wall. Good luck.

My son left yesterday. I just found this website as I was searching the web for all the information I realized I didn't have. My son was weepy before he left, and sounded shell shocked as well when he called last night. It has been harder than I expected, and I am liable to burst into tears seeing silly things around the house...his dreadful hot sauce he loved...his big shoes I was often tripping over.... Now you have had a few weeks I hope you are feeling better. When did you get the address?

I'm a similar "boat"--not to sound silly! My son has been at Boot Camp now for his 1st wk!! Right now I know it's hardest for me, I enjoy talking with him on and off thru the day, even as he was away at college-we STILL spoke daily...ALWAYS ended the day with a "good nite and kiss..."........having the last conversation being that "robotic talk" the nite he arrived at Great Lakes was difficult. But my son DID prepare me very thoroughly for what to expect, and he has been looking forward for actually becoming apart of the Navy for quite some time! We both have adjustments,but............a mom finds it VERY hard to admit that her child has become a young man! :(
I DO plan to attend graduation there at Great Lakes--have NEVER been!--please share ALL: best hotel to stay in, do I need to rent a car-I live in FLA and will fly or will there be shuttles?, how many days should I plan to stay? ---I guess I can start there. May every parent out there be blessed and filled with God's love.

I tryly feel your pain because when my baby girl was in college we talked everyday. I am still adjusting to not hearing her voice.
It is hard to admit that your child is now and adult. It hit me that for the next four years she will only be passing through our home.
She graduates April 27th. We are flying out on Thursday the 26th due to graduation starting at 9. We got a bundle Hotel round trip tickets and a rental car for four people at 342.00 a piece. We used expedia.
