OK, I'll admit, I'm completely impatient. SR left on 3/15 and still no form letter yet. I knew he intended to not send a box, so I haven't been looking for that. I just really hope it comes tomorrow.

wow...that seems like a long wait. It's hard to let go, but the future these kids are building for themselves will be a solid foundation.
The form lettter can take up to two weeks...sometimes more. They do not actually send this out until they are in their Ship/Division. The first week after arrival are processing days..."P" days...and they are in temp housing. Hopefully soon for you!
My son left on 3/15 as well. I check the mailbox every day. I know it is hard to be patient but I am told 3 weeks is the standard so I am counting on the first week of April.
I had all intentions of my son not sending a box but it didn't work out that way and I am so glad it did. I got his box and when I finally got around to opening it there was a handwritten very short note that just said. Love you Mommy! I cried. hahaha but I will keep that note forever.
:)
Thank you Logansmom, for responding. You have given me a great deal of comfort just knowing we are on the same page. Not that I want you to be sad! Mitchell's father contacted the recruiter today and got his ship & div number Ship 12/Div 149 - I know I've read that sometimes the recruiters are not right on with info. We're hanging in there, you do too!
My son's box contained his airplane ticket...on which he wrote, "Love you guys :)" Yep, tears flowed and it's framed.
Our son left on 3/19. We have been anxiously awaiting our form letter...guess we'd better not hold our breath. Hope you get your letter soon.
Sometimes they have to wait 'til enough recruits come in to make a full division. Yeah. That's right. Hurry up and wait! They get there and will start the processing, but may have to hang our for a few days before they actually have a full division and move to their 'ship'. They don't fill out the form letter and mail it until they move to their 'ship'. So it may have been such a delay that your recruits experienced and thus delaying the letters.
Also keep in mind, it's nicknamed 'snail mail' for a reason. Some areas get their letters quicker than others. I live just a 2 hour drive from Great Lakes, and our form letter arrived a week and two days after our sailor recruit left, just to give you an idea.
Keep your chins up, and a watchful eye on your mailman! ;) Hope you get your letters soon and good luck to your recruits!
