I just moved here from California last week to be with my husband while he is going through A school and am looking for some fellow Navy wives/girlfriends.  Would love to meet up!  :)

the preserve at osprey lake. hahaha well i love the color of your car so they always make me look closer lol

My boyfriend is currently in A school in Great Lakes and I am in the process of finding work and an apt. Any recommendations apt wise or know of any places that are hiring? I am not very familiar with the area so I don't want to end up in any bad areas or anything! Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Missy!  Well I'm still new to the area as well but I love where we are living.  We are in Northgate Apartments in Waukegan.  Really nice and about 15min away from the base.  The number is (847) 623-5347.  If you end up moving here, let them know I referred you.  :)  You can also check with the housing office for recommendations although I'm not sure how all of that works since you aren't married.  But it's always worth a phone call.  Their phone number is (847) 688-3440.  You can also check out the apartment complex that Ashley mentioned above.  As far as work, honestly I haven't really looked around yet.  I'm still just kind of enjoying the fact that I don't HAVE to work right now.  I'll probably start looking for something here soon.  What school is your boyfriend in?  When do you think you plan on moving out here?

I am in GL Have been here for a year now.. My husband was a FC graduated school got frocked and then re rated right after we had our son in December and he is now in TX going to school to be a CE.. If you have any questions let me know I know a ton of the Navy wives up here check out a few fb sites "great lake navy wives" Great Lakes sales and swaps" Mommies and babies 411 (thats my site :)) And I can let you know who to stay away from too haha

Thank you so much for the tips!  I just asked to be added to all of those groups.  :)  Do you go to the Spouse Support group that meets a couple of Thursdays a month?  I tried to catch the last one but I guess it didn't happen because of all the crazy stuff on base last week. I have only met one other wife so far and would love to meet some other women.  I've been keeping myself busy but I am normally a very social person so this has been a big adjustment for me.  I have turned into a FB and Craig's List stalker!  Our apartment was much smaller back home so I've been doing a lot of shopping.  :)  My husband is going to be an ET.  He's going through ATT right now and should be done with that in a couple of months I think.  My understanding is we will be here for about a year total.  How much longer are you here for?  Congratulations on the birth of your son by the way!  How exciting!!

I'm moving to GL in about three days!! Can't wait to see my sailor :) I'm staying in an extended stay hotel because they don't have leases and I have no furniture to bring with me lol. I'll be down for about two or three months. Any one with any advice, it would be appreciated. I've never lived on my own so I'm quite nervous! Especially since I have to buy a car while I'm down there and won't have transportation for the first few weeks :(

OMG Grace you must be getting so excited!!!!  I'm guessing you got the "I'm a Sailor" call?  Oh I'm so excited for you!  Such an exciting time.  It is the BEST, most emotional feeling seeing your Sailor again after the time apart.  I just remember hugging my husband and breathing him in.  I literally felt the weight just slide off my shoulders.  We should get together when you get here!!  I'm sure you will be busy during PIR weekend, but after that.  So he graduates this Friday??  Whoo hoo!!  Give me a call when you are ready to go out and explore a bit.  Oh and don't worry about living on your own.  It'll be fun, I promise.  :)

Yes!!! yesterday I finally got the call!!! I'm so excited to see him, and his dreams are finally coming true! Thought this day would never come. Just finished packing today, I leave Thursday at 1am lol.  Yes we should!! I'll definitely give you a call :)

Iv been here for 3 years.

Oh wow!!!  So you must be stationed here.  How do you like it?  So far my husband and I have been having fun exploring the area.  We, well I, just need to meet some people and start establishing a friend base.  Are you involved in the spouse support group that meets a couple of Thursdays out of the month?

I just was reading through some of the responses and have a question. My boyfriend is going to boot camp June 6th. If we get married after that...can we live together while he is at A School? That is what I am getting from your posts so I thought I would ask. Hope all is going well for you all.

The Navy won't necessarily help you move with him for boot camp. The only reason they would let him live off base (to my understanding) is if he is married before he goes to BC. Thats the why he would be able to live with me, but unfortunately it also depends on how long the Aschool is. I would look up to find out the length and that will make it easier to get information about whats coming up :)
