Hi everyone,

I have an idea in mind for a really cool book,  as you can tell by my nickname I am an artist and I decided I'm going to do a series of paintings on the whole boot camp experience.  RTC has kindly allowed me to use their photos as reference for this, so here are my first 2.  the firefighting one isnt quite done.

When I'm done with 20 or so, I'm going to publish them in a book on Blurb for my SR......What I'd like to do is insert quotes or images of actual letters that perhaps mention the aspect of training I have painted or just some of the funny things they say or even the touching things....Please message me if you are willing to share an excerpt, scan, or photo of your letters.....Once it is published it will be viewable in it's entirety for everyone online....so obviously for security purposes the real names will be blurred or omitted.

and If anyone has a cool book title idea, let me know....all I can think of is Letters from Boot Camp and that sounds boring to me.

maybe Letters to Mom?

anyway, let me know what you think!

almost done with the flag division, It's really cool so far!

please do!  I would love it!

message me in my inbox!

Hi atimeforart, I would love to help too but not sure he's said anything that might be of use.  I'll go back through the letters I've received.

OMG, I would totally love to be in on this.  My son wrote great letters when he was in boot camp and I absolutely LOVE your paintings!!!

Your paintings are beautiful! And I agree, the best title is one that encompasses the whole experience of becoming a Uniteds States Navy Sailor. I'm actually a wife of a recruit that is 3 weeks into BC. I'd let you have copies of his letters, but his writing is so terrible, lol! Wish he'd write it all in "Recruit Handwriting" which is much much easier to read.

I think what you're planning to do is wonderful and not only something families will find endearing of their sailors far beyond boot camp, those in right now and those waiting to ship out; but also inspiring to future sailors. Those that maybe hadn't even given half a thought to serving their country. And maybe it could also turn the opinion of scorn into respect for our military by those who just simply do not understand what recruits must go through to become a sailor.

I hope your endeavor to produce this book is a great success and that to follow-up, you'll create another book about those at sea, over sea and under sea...and let's not forget our sailors at home as well.

This could very well keep you busy for several years. Im sure the other branches will be jealous and want a book about them too. ;)

Good luck! And we look forward to seeing the results!

Hi, wow, great paintings!! & a wonderful idea you have on the book!

My daughter graduated Feb 17th, she sent some great letters home so I will definitely contribute after I go back thru all her letters. In the meantime, there was a forum on here that was titled something like Letters from Bootcamp and it had some great stuff on there, my favorite one was- please send me a picture of me with hair...I really miss it!

Here's a fun title idea.... "These 'Boots' are made for Sailin!"

or "Dear Loved one, today at Bootcamp..."

Excited to see more to come!

Thanks everyone, keep the ideas coming!  I'm going to keep gathering ideas and such until around mid May.....I took this photo of a letter my fiance wrote to my son.....This is going in the book for sure,  I cracked up.

Well if I get any "good" stuff on a letter I'll definitely send it your way :)

atimeforart -- Again I say your work is overwhelmingly beautiful!  While I haven't received a letter yet, i'll be happy to contribute once I receive them.  Incredible idea and wonderful legacy you are creating!!

I'm creating a book of memories for my son on his adventure.  Since it was such a sore spot for me that my son taunted me by sending "the letter" addressed to his dad and not me, I took a photo of the envelope from "The letter" with the portion fo the letter showing where he wrote "Dear Jim" instead of dear dad.

I would love to share a funny line from my son's  letter! I love your pics and ideas

What a great idea! I haven't received anything as of yet, he's just been gone under a week. When I do I'll be sure to send to you as I think it would be wonderful to contribute to your book.
