While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

So if we are going to O'Hare, we can go to the USO office and they can get us through security? Or do we have to be with our SR either way? Or do they stay at the USO until close to flight time?

Good morning Moms
My son Joe is also going to San Antonio (HM) he is in Division 120. I cant wait for PIR to see him and to meet everyone .
I figure a couple hours is better than nothing. It would be nice to read a letter from him this week also.

My daughter, Elizabeth, graduates 4/13/12 and is also headed for San Antonio. She is Ship03 Div 118 and will be at MA school. She is enjoying her bootcamp experience.

The things I ordered for my SR to help him study prior to classes beginning have arrived. They were recommended in various places and I'm pleased with the purchases. I got them from Amazon.com
The Anatomy Coloring Book by Wynn Kapit/Lawrence M. Elson. This is a HUGE book that looks more like a paperback textbook with black and white pictures coded for them to color the picture and then the heading with the written information to aid with studying. I am very impressed with this book. I paid $13.80 and it is worth the price, easily. I plan to purchase a good set of colored pencils to go with it. The book suggests a minimum of 10 different colors.
Human Anatomy Coloring Book by Margaret Matt. I'm not nearly as impressed with this book, but then it was only $4.99. It does not go into as much detail and may be a good place for him to start since he doesn't have any background knowledge. This might do as an introduction before he goes deeper with the other coloring book.
Anatomy Flashcards by Kaplin. This specific set was recommended. It is shrink wrapped and I have not opened it, but since this was the specific set recommended, I'm sure it will be great.
Kaplan EMT basic Exam This is a study guide for the EMT exam and was recommended by a recent graduate of the HM program. It has not arrived yet, but he recommended studying it and taking the practice tests, so I just recently ordered it also.
Now...if SR will just use them. :) I'm worried that he will feel "free" after BC and that he will waste the time before school starts instead of actually studying. But then, as his mother, I can just provide the tools. He has to decide to use them. I've mentioned them in his letters and let him know that they choose assignments based on GPA, so it will behoove him to study.
Can you tell I'm the studier in the family? It is killing me not to start coloring the coloring book already! LOL

I have a relative who knows the Ft. Sam base commander personally. They are back to a 7-10 day wait for classes to start instead of the 4 - 6 weeks it was in Jan. and Feb. HOOYAH!!

SR got a phone call today and said all HM going to San Antonio are going to be held at GL for 10 days before shipping to San Antonio. Anybody else hear that? I know that have a Transfer Hold Unit at GL, so I am assuming they will be sent there.

Didn't hear anything yet about being held.How did your SR find out they don't get their orders until 4 days before. For them I hope they don't get held. Reason I am supposed to bring his lap top and phone. If they get held we won't be able to give to them. Did you get I am a salior call yet ?

He said they went on computer last week and looked at their orders. However, I talked to another 922 mom who lives near me. Her daughter is also San Antonio bound. What the daughter said was she knew her school start date but not her flight info. I'm thinking now that my SR was confused and saw his school start date and assumed that meant he wasn't leaving GL until then. Since nobody else has heard this, I'm assuming daughter was correct. Sounds right because women usually understand the details better than men. LOL Daughter was hoping to know flight details before Sailor call later this week. No...922 has not BS21 yet.

O.K thank you for responding to me. Women always get more details than men!!!!!! I could see the difference even on here when the daughters write their Mom's compared to the Son's. Friday can't come soon enough!!!!! Thank you again.

My son is going to SA too, Hospital Corpsman. I will be going to the airport no matter what time as need to get cell phone, Ipod, few civilian clothes and maybe laptop if he has room. Hoping to get "I'm a sailor call" this afternoon! He is in division 119.
