So here is my situation. My sailor finished A school Friday. From what he was told, he would have leave right after school and before going to his duty station. It gets complicated BC he has to check in at his duty station the 20th and meet up with his guys that are already deployed. So he was suppose to come home tomorrow and stay till the 18th. Now his base (a school) is saying that they do not have the funds to send him to his duty station right now so they have him on "hold". His sponsor on the other hand is saying he cannot report any later than what his orders say, which i understand but if this base isn't sending him then its out of his hands. So does the navy not work together when it comes to funding plane tickets and stuff? The two bases are not telling him the same thing.

Mean while i'm freaking out because i cannot go through this deployment without seeing my sailor first! I have spent a whole 6 hours with him in the last 5 months and  this deployment is gonna be another 6 months (at least!).

My point is, i heard there is some rule that after training they get leave guaranteed. Is that true? Have any of you been in this situation? The Navy is beyond frustrating me. It feels like nothing is ever the way they say. I'm just venting a bit lol. I know what ever they say goes, but just wanted to see what you ladies think about this.

If his orders say he needs to be there by the 20th, I would say he needs to be there by the 20th whether that means he gets to take leave or not. He definitely does not want to start his career getting in truoble with his first duty station! Do you know who at his A school is telling him they are not sending him? Maybe he can talk to someone else? I'm not sure if they get guaranteed leave after training.... I have not heard that before.

I hope it all works out for you!

i honestly am not sure who is in charge of making sure everyone gets where they need to be. Yea that kinda makes me nervous bc his sponsor is the person he directly reports to.Aside from leave i just want him to get there on time!! I just don't understand how they can be so unorganized.

Nothing in the Navy is guaranteed, they will get him where he needs to go by the time he needs to be there. Sometimes when they get to their duty station they might be put in a sort of limbo for the moment because they are still getting all the kinks worked out at the command too. (Hope that made sense) Leave is not a guaranteed either, it is what they need at the time and if they do not see fit at the moment for whatever reason then he won't get to take it. There have been many times my husband has not known if his was approved till the last day, and when trying to plan a vacation, wedding, or whatever else can be very frustrating. Also, with leave they want them to have 10 days on the books (at least at my husbands command, not sure if it is everywhere) beyond what they are taking as a just in case, then he would have to go talk to the Chief and all that to get it approved.

Thank you. I'm not a huge fan of the Navy right now lol. The most frustrating part is he keeps getting the run around when he asks questions.I hope your right and he gets to his command on time! I'm just going to have to wait this one out.

First off, like the other girls said the only thing you can ever count on the Military for is that its always changing.  Leave after A school is in no way for sure. And sometimes they will not know until the day the leave A school that they are leaving. My husband got told the day before. He was also put on hold for a few days. Idk about all that funding a ticket really. I have never heard that excuse before and my husband was leaving A school right at the point the government was about to all shut down. But I highly doubt they will make it where he doesnt report the day he is supposed to. He wouldnt get in trouble if they didnt send him in time. They would adjust his orders I would imagine if they had to.

I know the thought of not seeing him before deployment is very scary. I know in some cases they dont send them directly out so there might be a possibilty you could go see him at his duty station before they fly him out. I am not saying its a definite but its always a possibility. so be prepared in case you get that opportunity.

One thing I have learned is you cant get to upset with the Navy not doing what you want it to. You will drive yourself nuts. My husband should be home in less than a month but he got extended and now he wont be home until late summer/early fall. It sucks but I cant waste my life everytime the plan changes. The best thing to do is let it out somehow and then pull yourself up and keep on trucking.

Thank you! I really appreciate it. You are completely right I'm just freaking out a bit. Yes, he asked me to go see him in Washington before he ships out and i defiantly will, like you said thats just not how i wanted to do it. We were suppose to be married on his "leave" and i'm just pissy bc last minute they say he might not get it lol. I'm adjusting, like you said its just scary. We are both still EXTREMELY new to this military life and there is so much to learn!

I completely understand how you are feeling especially that you are getting married, my husband found out he could take leave the day before our wedding, luckily we purchased the plane tickets already, it was a fiasco but everything turned out. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I know its hard believe me. I have been thrown so many curveballs I have freaked out so many times. I have yelled at my husband and told him to put his chief on the phone bc I had a few choice words to tell him. Luckily he is smart enough not to do that lol. Totally let it out, then breathe and start plan B. :) One thing I have learned I always have a plan and a back up plan and a back up plan for thatand then sub plans for each component of my plan. Its very tiring but helpful ;) and keeps me busy. What is his new command going to be? I understand the marriage too! My husband was in A school when his Chief got mad bc he didnt fill out the right paperwork bc of LPOs telling him not to. Almost told us he wouldnt let him leave to get married. Oh yea tonss to learn about military. If you want you can PM and I can give you some deployment tips of things you will want to know :)

tips would help and be greatly appreciated!!! Am i dumb for asking what is PM? lol

private message :), not dumb at all
