Okay, so I just got a letter from my husband who is currenlty in bootcamp. He informed me that his a-school is now going to be 34 weeks instead of 22 weeks. Since it will be over 6 months, the navy should pay for me to more down there right? Does anyone know if there's something I need to do or someone I need to contact? Or do I just wait for him to graduate. We originallly didn't think it would be long enough for the navy to move us down so we didn't really talk about it or ask his recruiter for details.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I would try the other group mentioned on the main page here. You may get more response.

As far as the Navy paying for you to move, it will not happen.  The school will need to be more than that for them to pay.  Good luck though.

I thought they paid if it was more than 6 months? Am I mistaken?

Yeah, the Navy will not pay for it. The school needs to be a lot longer than 6 months.  He can get brown bagger status and live off base while he is there.  Well I should say that he is allowed to apply for brown bagger status, but that is no guarantee he will get it.

My wife's recruiter told her I could be moved if her school was over a certain number of weeks and they just laughed at us when we asked!

Well since 34 weeks is 8.5 months they should, right?

they should, but they won't. You can ask, the worse they can say is no.

I don't know how updated this is.... But see the links below.. Maybe they might be of some help. If you can't click, just copy and paste. My fiancé and I are planning to get married when he arrives to Pensacola and I'm trying to find out how everything works as well. Good luck!

I don't know if they will pay for the move itself-but you should get BAH and he can apply for brownbagger. My husband went to A-school in Pensacola, we got married while he was there so I knew they wouldnt pay for me to move. I think the only way they will move you is if his orders say something about a dependent. Usually if it's over 6 months they will-but with him being student status I'm not sure. ANYWAY, I moved myself down there and he came over on weekends until his brownbagger got approved-it only took like 2 weeks once he turned it in, but there's so much he has to do before he can turn everything in. Good luck!! I hope everything works out for you! Stay positive and call fleet and family support-there are a lot of people out there who make this kind of stuff sound impossible to do, but it's not. Just do your own research and don't listen to what everyone has to say!

quick question for all who are living in pensacola what apartments would you recomend and if you dont mind me asking how expensive is your electric, water, etc. bills there?

It depends...which base do you want to be near? My husband is at Corry station so we live in Ember Ridge Apartments which is right outside the main gate of Corry. We only pay electric at our apartment and its around 150$ a month give or take a little (and thats with central air). That doesnt include cable/internet.

Feel free to pm me if you need any more info! There's alot of bad areas and bad apartments around here so its good youre doing your research!
