Our sailors will moving on to the 2nd phase of "Nuke" School. Indoc starts on Feb.9th and classes on the 13th. Since we will all be in the "same boat" together, I thought it will be nice to share our experiences.  Lets continue to support our sailors and each other!

Hi again, I haven't posted much but I do lurk and read..lol.  yes the section as a whole did poorly and everyone is on at least 15-2s even if they (as my son and some of yours)  did well.  There are group studies available, they can go see the NDIs for help or ask a classmate who's doing well.  My son worked with some of his mates last night (he did very well on the test) and said it's not that they don't know the stuff, it's that no teacher has ever taught them problem solving and critical thinking. Being a teacher myself I made sure my kids got that at least at home.  They DO know the material, they just need to ask for help!  My son said almost no one is going to the NDIs for help or even asking classmates who are doing well.  Sometimes the smartest thing to do is reach out when you feel overwhelmed.  I sure hope they all do that,  this would be a rotten place to quit after all the hard work they've put in.  Encourage them to go to the NDIs.  Good luck to all our sailors.   My son is flying my up in May for a visit, I haven't seen him since PIR!!!!  I'm so excited.

yay shannon....mine also is planning a trip home for memorial day week-end...did well on Mondays test. Guess they( his Class) has a big test coming up tuesday.......he was allowed to leave right after the test Monday to get his"married" paper work filled out and turned in! His hrs also got reduced to 10/0. He is happy that PT time has changed to 5am as it gives him more time in the GYM after class...then chow then study. He eats alot of his meals in his room.....buys chicken and fish to cook in some microwave steamer dishes his WIFE bought him. Still able to be a Gym Rat and keep up the grades so far...yay!

Plans on heading to the Beach again this week-end...as they are having an all day power outage on the base due to construction!

A power outage? all day?  Mine will not be happy, no air conditioning and no internet?  lol  He will just have to get out and do something.  Does it feel odd  that your son now has a wife to do that little stuff to look after his well-being?  Your son looks very happy in the wedding photos-you did a great job on them.

nah....they have dated for 5 yrs....she actually lives here in NC with me and his dad while she finishes Nursing school....she will be heading his way when she graduates in August. As far as doing the "little stuff"....he still calls Mom! hahaha!

So just skyped with Colin....class put on quiet time AGAIN....some youngins pulling pranks again in a building that they should'nt be! Chief is not soo happy and said the next time......punishment will be worst to those caught! DAMN!

They are half way through Powerschool and really need to grow up and focus! Also re-asigned new class leader and assistant due to this!

Told Colin just keep pluggin along, play the game your halfway there!

hello all!

well, tomorrow is monday already. lol   boy, does the weekend go fast!

i know that classes put alot of stress on them, but they have to relieve it without getting into trouble.   it just puts more stress on them and their classmates.

good luck to all of them this next week on any exams they may have!!!

whoo-hoo, Colin got his chit back and approved to come home for Memorial Day! Big Heat Transfer Test tomorrow....good luck to all your sailors. Hope this message finds you all well.....thank god Monday is almost over!

Son  called  last  night.  Passed the  heat  transfer  test  but  not  by  a lot. He  told  me  they  keep being  told  they  are  the  dumbest  class.  Do  you  think   they  are  told  this  to  motiviate  them  to  do  better? He  also  said  the  instructors( not  sure  what  their  proper  titles are) are only  interested  in  them putting  in  the  required study  hours and  not doing  well  on  the  tests. Has  anyone  else heard  anything  similar?

hello all!

my son passed his last test, but not as well as he wanted.     i know he has been doing alot of study hours.    i sure hope all the study hours dont burn them out!!    good luck to all of our sailors!!

I'm not sure that's the case Tina, they are after all going to be responsible for the most dangerous stuff on Earth.  I'm sure he's just tired and frustrated at the moment.  There's no extra fluff in this program so everything they are learning is super important, the tests are just a measure of whether they know the material or not.  And studying is the means to get the material into their heads,  I hope he hangs in,  keep reminding him of the goal and that it isn't very far away now.  Good luck to him, and to you.

hello!

i am glad the navy is making sure that our sailors know what they need to know before they go on a ship or sub.   my son hasnt complained to me about his study hours.  he also knows that he needs to learn what to do.  it is me worrying about him.   it is a habit! LOL  im sure you all understand!

you all take care and God Bless!

well Colin called last night, did very very well on Heat Transfer test...highest score in Class...not bragging just very proud momma! I guess he also had a test yesterday and told me his score and sounded surprized that he did soo well on that test also! He seems to be doing good overall and that helps with not worrying about him!

Was heading out to dinner with a few friends last night,,,,Im so glad that they get off the base and do things to break up the stress of this school!
