Hi proudmon/Desi, well my weeks are just about over my daughter's PIR date is 4/27/12. I am heading for Great Lakes on Thursday.  Yippee!  Hang in there, say alot of prayers and have tons of faith in your daughter.  Everything will be fine.  It just pure hell the first few weeks because you just don't know whats going on.  Also names are not put in conversation. Your daughter is an SR now. Seaman Recruit.  Go on N4M and get all the  acronyms to understand the Navy language you will be seeing in the next few weeks to come.  Good luck and God Bless and look out for the roller coaster.

Okay I will check that out....thank you roller coaster ride is exactly how i feel lol!

Hi! Welcome to the only place where every person here knows how you feel! Proud, scared, bittersweet, impatient, loving...alll those emotions are flowing and will be. Just stick here, Mom's here know!

Thank you I have a feeling this site will be my new best friend!

It has already helped me tremendously, my son left Monday.....

My son left today also. I'm waiting for the phone call tonight. I know I will miss him but it's just the idea that I can't pick up the phone and call him when I want to that bothers me the most. It's hard to give 'em up, but I guess he belongs to the Navy now.

Wow Vicky they are probably together my daughter left from Denver I just got the call and I agree not being able to just call her is going to be so hard!

Hi proudmom/Desi, I so understand your pain. I cried and cried when my son left 4/9 actually I cried from the time in Jan. until then that he was going into the navy.  He has been gone for 2 1/2 weeks now and everything that everyone says about keeping busy is so true. My daughter is in the army and i went to see her graduate from A school this past weekend.  boy did that keep my mind off the situation.  Of course, i had to be careful not to talk about my son because my daughter was worried about me slipping into depression over him leaving.  Keep busy, busy busy, and it really helps.

Ya I have learned just in 2 days keeping busy is the best thing lol! Otherwise all you do is cry...

Hi proudmom/Desi and Tina - My son left on 4/9 and I knew since January he was leaving as well.  Be prepared! Staying busy is key but know this - tears can flow at anytime and without the slightest trigger. It has been tough, emotionally, for me.  I am reading all the posts and feel a lot better knowing how I feel isn't unique! I want my first letter too!

So true...songs r a real trigger for me but I have a 15 yr old at home that helps! She keeps me busy!

Thanks staying busy is key!
