Hubby has been stationed in Japan since he got done with A school November 09. I moved here last June after getting married in April. By the time he is out it will be almost 4 years being stationed here, due to this he was informed he could OTEIP and get the bonus of either a free ticket home, money, or 30 days leave(not all at once) he decided to choose the leave. First his OTEIP was denied because we're married but put back in because i'm not command sponsored so his captain said it didn't count. Now it has come back and they are saying for it to be approved he has to write a statement refusing the ticket and our household stuff being shipped home.... i don't know if they mean the ticket from OTEIP or flight home when he gets out ticket.. but.. can they do this!? how are we supposed to ship all that home and we are not selling everything for next to nothing... he is an E-5 and said he's guaranteed stuff shipped home. He said he's going to sign it and/or fight it but i have a really bad feeling about it... anyone been through this or have advice on what to do? He is out to sea so it is very hard to communicate with him about it. Thanks in advance ladies :)

updated OTEIP instruction

When every someone gets apprved for OTEIP they do have to sign certain paper work stating they are getting one OTEIP and not the other.  I will bet that these are the ones he is signing and he just didn't get all the information that was needed before he got frustrated, or just didn't care and said he would sign what ever.  One these things are signed they are offical.

I used to due OTEIP's for my staff in Sasbo at the ACU...

fyi...if you are every looking for a Navy insturction http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/Pages/default.aspx use that site as a search engine in the upper right corner.  That site will bring up the most up to date insturctions.

Great link!

Thank you for your reply :) That makes sense in regards to the ticket which is what I was thinking but still doesn't make sense with the pack out situation.

What is stopping you from going to PSD and asking them?  Or going over to the FFSC and asking for thier assistance?

I have been there numerous times and they will not help me, wont tell me anything, My husband is going to do it when he gets home in the very near future. I was just looking for tips since even he is confused by this.

Thanks to everyone for all advice. I am talking to my husband and he's decided to forget about OTEIP because with his schedule he will not even be able to use the leave. So we have agreed it will be best just to forget it and put in for early out and go home :)

There is a big difference between trying to stay in and than suddenly deciding to try and get out early and just leave the USN.

I recommend you two both sit and really talk about this...what are your plans for medical and dental insurance?  What about a job?  The market sucks...just 'cause he has been in the USN does not mean he will just get out and get a job.  Studies show that for ever $10, 000 you want to make a month it takes at least one to two months of looking for a job.  So if you are trying to get a job that makes $30, 000 a year...it will take 3-6 months of looking.  Where will you live? What about saving for retirement?

I am not asking for answers here...just giving you things to think about.  Once he leaves active duty...odds are he will never be able to go back in active duty...the military is overmanned and down sizing...so going back to active duty isn't an option.  Is he looking at going into the reserves?

The plan from day one has been to get an early out. We were told that he had already completed the OTEIP requirements. We have already answered all the questions you asked about and he already has a very decent job waiting for him along with college. And we have a place to stay until we finish the paper work on our own place. There is not a pay check in the world that would convince him to stay in the Navy and not being able to go active again doesn't bother him at all. He wants out. Has since he got here, and whether I agreed or not he would be getting out anyway.
