My son is leaving for bootcamp June 6th. Does anyone else have someone leaving the same time?

JessicaB-Sailor Mom Ill be curious what he comes out of basic training with then. The recruiters have asked him if he was interested in a few other areas within the navy so we will see......

AO Alex's Mom I start to get teary eyed every time I think about him leaving but try not to let him know that. It will be life changing for all of us. I do tell him how much I am proud of him for taking this step.

So reality is setting in for me that he will be leaving in 19 days! We have to drop him off at the recruiters by noon on June 5th. They will drive him to Syracuse to MEPS and we drive up the next day to see him y out. I cry when I think about it: not sure if it is tears of sadness, pride or both. I tell him all the time how much I love him and that I am proud of him!

My son is leaving June 4th. He has been waiting since Oct and the reality is setting in that he only has a couple of weeks left.  He is ready to go.  I am so proud and excited for him.  He couldn't have picked a better career path than the military.

13 days and counting before my son leaves.  He told us last night that he did not want anyone to go to Meps with him or wait at the airport.  He thinks that will stress him out having the whole family around and that he would rather say See Ya Later at home and then spend the time with his recruiter making sure he understands everything else.  Is anyone else getting the same response?  I feel like I need to respect his wishes, but it will be sad not to be there.

I'm a recruit myself, and that's the same way I feel honestly. I love my family to pieces and I'd love nothing more than to spend every last minute I have with them, but when it's time to leave from the recruiting office, I just want it to be my recruiter and myself. Just to go over everything, any last minute questions, and so on. Don't take it as a bad thing, but as another recruit.. I know exactly where he's coming from.

Thanks.  I want to make this as easy on him as possible. I know he will have enough stress to deal with.  I will be sad to see him go, but so very happy for him.  Hopefully you will have the same PIR and I can stop and say hi.

That would be awesome if we had the same PIR. I leave my recruiting office the 4th and go to the Richmond, VA MEPS and I fly to Chicago the 5th. There are going to be so many people there, I'm nervous and excited at the same time. What did your son choose as a job? Will he stay in Great Lakes for school too?

Good morning.  Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond yesterday.  His job will be Aviation Electronics, which I guess can go in so many different directions. He will go to school in Pensacola.  Will you be staying in GL?  I am sure everyone going through this feels the exact same way.  He told me last night that it's really starting to hit him that this is happening.

Oh it's fine! Yes I'm staying in Great Lakes for my A school. I'm going as an Information Technology Specialist. I'm with him on that, like 10 days left, we're on the home stretch now.

Hi, My son is leaving on the 6th and ships out on the 7th to Great Lakes from Calif. He's also going in as an Information Technology Specialist. Maybe you'll be in the same group or something. He's excited to go too!

That's awesome! I'm sure we'll meet at some point at school! Best of luck to him! :)
