For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi Moms,
I'm new to this website and am so glad to be here. My son got to Great Lakes last night and called me about 12:30 am. He sounded shell shocked. I am missing him so much, but I know he is in good hands. I look forward to participating here and getting to know some other moms who are in the same boat. I have a question. When can we send letters and is there an address to send letters to? Oh, this is going to be hard.

Hello Daniela,
I am Chakeitta and I am new to this site as well. My daughter made it Great Lakes and called me about the same time on the 5th. I constantly think of my baby girl and miss her sooo much. Some days are better than others. The day I got her clothing was really hard. You should have received a letter by now.

hi I know how you feel. My son left for bootcamp this afternoon. I'm stilling waiting for his phone call. When he left today he seemed ok but very tired. He also has a cold and I hope he feels better soon.

I am also new to this website and I am so glad to have other moms going through the same feelings I have. My son left on April 4th to BC I immediately started writing letters and cards. Once I got my box and then the next day I got my form letter with his address I ran to all the letters and cards addressed them and addressed them and then I ran to the post office. I still have not received any mail from my recruit and he has been there for 15 days. But I keep on writing and looking forward when I do hear from him.

Tyler's mom when you finally get that letter from him, it will be awesome. I know it was for me. I am now on cloud nine, pins and needles because she graduate next Friday.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post and reading that my feelings are the same as other parents' is so comforting. My son left Monday morning but didn't arrive to BC until the next night. I too got the shell-shocked phone call at around 12:30 my time. I cried myself to sleep again that night. Day 4 is definately easier than days 1, 2, and 3. This good-bye felt so different than my college good-byes have. I know this is the best thing in the world for my son and I am so excited for his future. But there is still that hole that will take awhile to go away. My box of belongings came today and I haven't had the heart to open it yet! Maybe tomorrow...anyway, thank you to all of you who have posted helpful tips and encouraging words.

Hi everyone,
Reading everyone's posts has been a huge help during my son's first week at BC. I am so glad to see what I am feeling is "normal". That 12:30 am phone call was awful and I cried myself to sleep for the third night in a row. Day four is better; at least I have been able to talk to people about him without tearing up. I know the Navy is the best thing for my son but having him gone is going to be so hard. Not being able to just pick up the phone to talk is one of the hardest parts. Well, that and knowing he is having a hard time right now. I am so excited for him and of course extremely proud but not being able to hear what he is going through is tough. Now I am so anxious to get his first letter and of course planning to go to graduation helps! I have also been writing short letters everyday so when I get his address I'm ready to put them in the mail.

Hi Daniela,
My son left for Great Lakes, IL, on May 2. We got the phone call about 9 p.m. that night. We got "the box" last Tuesday and haven't heard anything yet. Looking for an address every single day and I am getting a little impatient. We know he needed to go because there is nothing here and the navy will be full of so many opportunities for him.

My son left yesterday and I got his call at 2:30 in the morning. It was sort of a formal call like a script or something. I just hope he's okay. He's the first one of 4 to leave the family and it really is a big emotional rollercoaster these past few days. I really would like to know whats in store for him the first week. I was wondering if there was a site to go to that tells what he goes through in the coming weeks.
