Hello! Does anyone know the graduation date for those who arrived at boot camp around May 23? I have been told that it will either be July 28 or August 4.  I have a dilemma, and I need advice.  I am in a musical this summer and the last weekend of our performance is the weekend of July 28th.  I want to go to my sailor's graduation, but it's a possibility it is on that performance date.  He knew this before he left and he told me I needed to audition for the show anyway.  He said it would keep me busy while he is gone and it is something I have really looked forward to.  He said that he is chasing his dream and he doesn;t want to keep me from chasing mine.  It is possible I will not find out the graduation date until 3 weeks before it.

I feel that graduating from boot camp is a great accomplishment and I need to be there for him.  He has always been there for me and has traveled many miles to support me.  So my question is, do I stick with the musical or drop out so I can go to his graduation for sure? I have a good role that involves some lines and solos. I do not want to let the director down, but I don't want to let Chris down either.  I know he told me to take my chance with the musical, but I feel like I should be there for him.  So what all will I be missing if I don't go to his graduation? I really wish I knew the date so I could just make a decision and figure out what I need to do.  Some of you have had to deal with moments like this and any advice really helps!!

If it helps my fiancee left on the 22nd and his graduation date is going to be the 20th of july so maybe you wont have to choose one way another. They just created a PIR group for 7/20/2012 so I'm sure the ladies on there could tell you for sure

you should do the musical. that is what he wants. but also you should write to him and ask him about it. i am sure he would want you to be in the musical. and don't worry you will have plenty of time to decide and think it over. right now focus on your dream, it really does keep you busy so you don't worry too much about your SR

You will find out in about a week or two the projected date. They send a form letter about week 3 and it will depend on where he sends it to who gets it. (sorry I dont know if yall are married or not that sort of influences it sometimes parents get it if you arent married)

As far as graduation goes yea its great and seeing your sailor is awesome! But depending on his rate you might get a few hours with him or the weekend. Do you have an understudy that could take over if you had a show that weekend?

Also, I would say do not drop out! One thing I was told by one of the best forensic scientist in the country. "If you have ever lost a dream, you have lost a life" Giving up an opportunity like that could potentially hurt you in the future. Who knows who may see you in this role and cast you for an important part! Or what if word gets out that you let the director down would that hurt your chances of future roles? While I understand wanting to support your sailor you also have to think about yourself. Do not give up your identity to just follow him around. I currently am at this point right now. I found a job that would be perfect for me and what I have been looking for. It would require 4 weeks of training in a city 4 hours away. Possibly coinciding with my Husband's homecoming and maybe even causing me to miss it. He told me do it, sometimes we have to make tough decisions about what would be best for our future not only together but seperately as well. He said dont you dare give up something like that. I refuse to give up my dreams, Not that I am not proud of him and what he does and I do want to be there for him but I wont put my life on hold.

Thank you all for your great advice!! I have talked to many other people and they helped me realize I have to do what is right for me.  So, I decided not to do the show.  I am always involved in everything (problem of mine) and he has always been there for me.  This is the one thing that he has been whole-heartedly ecstatic about and I have to be at his graduation. It is also the one time I will get to be by his side before A-school.  That is something I need for myself.  I knew I would regret not seeing him more than not doing the show. I hate that I cannot be in the show, but I have other things going in my life and it was just going to be too stressful anyway.  I had more than this decision to make.  I am still following my dreams as we speak and I am working really hard.

It also helped that the director was very understanding because his brother was in the navy.  He had no hard feelings and I will be hepling with costumes/makeup. Gladly I am still a part of the show.  My sailor's mom also told me that he had my name down for the graduation, knowing that it the date would conflict with performance.  That showed how much hope he had for me to be there, and I will be.
