My son , Alex is being picked up on Father's Day as well. I'm excited for him to start his new journey, but he is my youngest and I'm really going to miss him.

My son is leaving June 19. We are throwing him a shipping out party this weekend to say goodbye to everyone before he goes. We are going on a family vacay next week together. is anyone else doing a getaway with their recruit?

nicholle421, they will pick up our son June 20th.  Yes we are taking one last family vacation next week as well.  After a few other stops, we are going to end up at Pensacola. Our son should be going to Pensacola for A school so we are going to take in the museum on base so we can all see where he will be in a few months.  We're having his shipping out party June 16th.  Hard to think that's this month now.

Yes, My daughter is also leaving on June 18, 2012.  She will be at the hotel in Staten Island the night before.

My son is leaving on June 19th.  His rate is SECF, so A school will be in Connecticut

My son is also being picked up on Father's Day, out of OKC.

Ladies-I was you all a year ago.  My son shipped out of MEPS on June 21st, 2011.  He arrived and was put into what is called a Push Division.  (A push division is a division that is formed at the end of the section and is pushed at an excelerated rate for Boot Camp, so they had to do more in less time-while that is good for us back home, I only had to deal with him being there for 7 weeks, and not the normal 8-9 weeks-it does leave them less time to do things like write home, etc.)  Anyway, I got my "Boy(or girl, if you have a daughter) in a Box" in just  a few days, and my infomation letter came the day after the "box"  So it does seem like it takes forever, but for them it's all flying by.  But we got through, made it through A school and with in 4 months of finishing A school, he was deployed, and is currently deployed still.  He is however having the time of his life, been some really great places, too.  I know, he's able to keep in contact via email, Facebook, Skype and even had a couple phone calls, the last one came from Italy.  I stop everything when those phone calls come, I was on the way out the door, and had to go back because I forgot something and the phone started ringing, I almost didn't answer, but I did(and oh so thankful I did)  I proceeded to sit and talk to him for more than 30 minutes.  Well lets just say I was late getting where I was going, and I'm never late-so when I arrived everyone was curious, cause I'm usually always the first to arrive, and not this time.  All I had to say was, "sorry, but my sailor called, and well you just weren't important enough for me to hang up on him"  lol, they all understood, and agreed they'd have talked too.  So hang in there, it will be ok, and you will all get through it.  Suggestion when you write him/her send what we call survey letters, you ask questions and leave him a space to write in an answer.  Like: Which bunk did you get? Top/Bottom(this way he can answer just by circling the right one.  Or: Your bunk mate, what state are they from?_____________    These letters let your SR(Seaman Recruit) answer lots of questions with out taking lots of time they may not have, and if possible let them write general letter that everyone can read, like ones that can be passed around, if he/she has to write 20 different people 20 different letters your letters could be one sentence long.   And yes, send them stamps and even envelopes (i'd send a letter and enclose a self addressed stamped envelope -this cuts down on time for them, but MAKE SURE your envelope is done in BLOCK STYLE letters just the way the SR's have to write it, otherwise they might not be able to use your envelopes.  ANything that saves them time, helps.

My daughter ships on June 20th.  We are only 3 hours from Great Lakes but she has to leave the 19th for MEPS and then ships out from there on the 20th.  I have a feeling this website is going to be a great lifeline for me.

My son had MEPS on the 18th and shipped out on the 19th

. i GOT MY LESS THAN A MINUTE CALL FROM HIM AT 1030PM CALIFORNIA TIME. HE WAS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT AND TO THE SCRIPT. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM HIM EARLIER WHEN HE LANDED AND HE WAS CHIPPER NOT AT BASE YET. IT ALL CHANGED WHEN I GOT THE 1 MINUTE CALL HE SOUNDED LIKE A ROBOT
