It would be great to talk with the other moms and families who are on the same ship and Div as my son.
My sailor is the third oldest out of 11 but the first one to really leave home. The oldest two moved out to go to college about 45 min away form us. I didn't think it would hit me so hard since we still have 8 kids at home but his leaving really left an unexpected hole. Having said that I am beyond excited for him. He worked long and hard for his EOD contract. An added bonus is we now have the chance to gain an office/guest room. We tore into his room the day he left and hope to have it completed by the time he has a chance to come home. I needed to get his room redone, walking by the door was killing me seeing all his stuff in there.

Hi . . I have a son in Div 814 Ship 04 . . Graduating June 29, 2012. He is the youngest of 3 boys, so he's grown up tough. He also said he was the youngest SR in this Division. Can't wait to see him in 4 weeks . . and still waiting for the first phone call. I have received letters and he seems to be doing well . . even after they pulled all 4 wisdom teeth.
I've always heard there is a special place in heaven for mom's with 3 boys . . so I've been counting on that . . to the mom with 11 children . . God bless you . . !!!
I hope your phone call comes soon. We received our first one yesterday. It was frustrating waiting so long knowing "all" the other divisions have been able to make phone calls already. What contract does your son have? My SR has an EOD contract.
He will be an Aviation Rescue Swimmer. He joined the swim team in High School to train for baseball . . little did he know that he would join the Navy and use that experience. We did receive our phone call last week . . I jumped up and down I was so excited. Can't wait to see him in just a few weeks!
The youngest do seem to grow up the toughest, especially with boys. My five youngest kids are all boys and the littlest one, the 4 year old doesn't take anything from anybody. He is constantly thinking he can do exactly what his big brothers do. I hope you have received your phone call by now. We received our first phone call on Wednesday. It was very upbeat except for the fact that he couldn't get a hold of his girlfriend. My SR called me, called his dad at work, then called me back heartbroken because his girlfriend was at work and couldn't answer her phone. Not too much longer and he will see all of us. How old is your son? He must be close to my SR's age. We signed paperwork for him when he was still 17 so he could join the Navy.
My son is also in SHIP 04 DIV 814 PIR 6/29.
He called on Saturday 5/26. Said that boot camp has gotten much better than when he had sent the first letters. He is enjoying it now, although he is extremely sore, they give very good work outs.
He said that everyone is getting along really well. He said that the RDC's are really tough, but fair. I had several questions about PIR, ect to ask, but I forgot to ask anything that I wanted to know...
I just pulled off the road, and put it on speaker phone and let his sisters, mom and myself just speak to him. He pretty much led the conversation, and was very excited to talk.
And what was best is while the girls talked to him, my wife was able to get herself in order( no tears or crying) and talk when it was her turn, without any tears... She did so well, was very supportive and positive, a good sailor's mom.
I didn't realize how stressed the girls were to talk to him, until afterwards when they were back to chatting freely about their big brother.
I was so proud of him, and wanted to share the news. Also, one of his fellow SR's loaned him a calling card, because we had failed to send one. We now have a couple are on their way.
I think that this is all ok to share, if not I can take it down.
Dan.
It is so nice to hear a husband speak such kind words about his wife. What contract does your SR have? Mine SR's contract is for EOD. My husband survived marine boot camp so he has held my hand through all of this. It is so hard to stop mothering grown sons!! He called and sounded awful, from being sick, and I just wanted to put him to bed and take care of him. He was in good spirits though. My son agrees most of the SR's seem to be getting along.
Thanks, Cor. You never want to be the one to get your SR in trouble.
He called again today, and said that all of them were told to call home. I actually remembered to ask some questions and he really is enjoying boot camp.
He has only received letters 3, 5 and 7. Really odd huh.
They got their uniforms today. He said that they look really sharp in their dress blues, but they will be graduating in their whites. He was really confident that all his Div mates will finish boot camp. They are really into the swing of it now. He was already talking about battle stations. He says that he hasn't even seen the building it's in yet, but he's ready.
Dan.
We received our first phone call yesterday also. My son said everyone was sick but he sounded upbeat. He said he too has a great deal of respect for the RDS's. He said they are very fair and reward them when they do a great job. Free time and Pizza Hut or Taco Bell. He also mentioned the workouts are great and he hasn't lost momentum since he went to boot camp. I have read in the past the biggest complaint coming from the 800 Div is the lack of tough workouts and they have to get in shape all over again for dive school. I had a bunch of questions for him but was soooo excited to see that 847 area code all my questions were forgotten. It is good to hear from some other parents with sons in 814.
Counting the days till PIR--Got the first call and our son sounded wonderful! Looking forward to the stories and am hoping I don't have to play 20 questions. Suggestions as to what to bring to GL; he will be staying there after graduation. At what point can they have their cell phones, computer and personal belongings?
Hello DIV 814 ... Just wanted to see how everyone is doing..PIR is almost here YAY.
I am one of the Vet moms... I have been to 2 PIRs within the last 2 years. I have 2 kids in Navy and a son-in-law.
Son is in the Seal program and Dau and SIL are MAA's ...
I bet you guys are all getting ready for the PIR .. its an amazing ceremony... a site to behold...so excited for you guys... hope all is well with everyone ...Have a great rest of the week :)
yes, the excitement is building as the weeks close in. My girls are so excited about seeing their brother in his new uniforms and arguing over who is going to give him the biggest hug and who is going to give the first hug etc...
Mom is really ready for the trip also. I think that everything after the loss of communication during boot camp will be easier for her.
Where are you planning to go to orientation meet and greet at. Does everyone just kind of pick one of the three, or is their usually one that pretty much everyone goes to? I am speaking of the Thursday night meet and greet.
Have a great evening.
Dan.
I have talked to a lot of people on the PIR 6/29/12 facebook page, we are planning on going to Sarge's meet and greet . . we've been talking to each other for weeks and thought it would be great to meet each other . . :)
