June marks the official beginning of summer so let’s have a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Our June adoption is for a “crazy crew” of ABHs aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington CVN73.

The ABHs (Aviation Boatswain’s Mate – Handling) are the yellow shirts and blue shirts on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

They launch and recover aircraft and work extremely long hours covering day and night flights.  Things get pretty hot working around “the birds” and this crew needs a bit of summertime fun to lift their spirits!  Bulk boxes filled with the ingredients for a fun summer picnic or barbecue would be great for this group!

Based in Yokosuka, Japan, they are currently on patrol.  The ABH crew consisting of 165 males and 22 females.

They are requesting:

Food

beef jerkey, slim jims

energy/protein bars, breakfast bars, Pop Tarts, mini boxes of cereal, granola bars

dried fruit, canned fruit (easy open tops)

canned soup, cup of soup, tuna (in pouch or pop top can)

crackers, rice krispy treats, sunflower seeds, chips, pretzels, bean dip, cheese dip

cookies (any kind would be great) Jolly Ranchers, Smarties, Sweet Tarts, hard candy, gum

seasoning salt, hot sauce

Gatorade type mix for water bottles as well as the water bottles with straps

First Aid / Personal Care

aloe vera burn gel, lip balm, moisturizing/cleansing eye drops, saline nasal spray, throat drops

vaseline blister care, flexible & cloth bandages, surgical masks, bug repellent, pocket tissues

no-water aspirins, vitamins, cotton swabs, nail clippers, eye glass wipes, Avon Skin So Soft

"hoo-ahh" brand unscented pre-moistened field towels, waterless antibacterial soap, sunscreen

strong flashlight & batteries, air freshener, tablet laundry detergent, perfume, cologne

brushes, combs, foot powder, disposable razors, non aerosol shaving cream, deodorant

Fashion

cooling neck bands, good quality sunglasses, bandanas, black boot socks, padded insoles

Fun

deck of cards, DVDs, Nerf balls, and a big YES to pillowcases.

I know that their list is long but these sailors really take a beating up there on the flight deck so let's send them some fun with a

YELLOW AND BLUE BARBECUE

Please mail packages between June 23rd and June 26th.  Thank you!

Thank you so much! Just to clarify, you are sending 8 APO/FPO size boxes correct?  Please let me know how many are food and how many are first aid/personal.  Thanks again!

I got the supplies to make some neck coolers.  If I counted right I might be able to make 20 or so.  I'll let you know when I get them done

200 monster cookies would be fabulous!  And thank you so much for organizing a a mini packing party!  Every little bit helps!

Hi Laura--got my box packed.  By the time I got the 12 pillowcases in it with handmade kids cards, there was room for:  3 each water bottles; 3 toothpaste/brush/floss; 3 pair sox; some health care products; and 2 boxes of 50 each BC powders.

Thank you Carol. Sounds like a nice assortment!

Listen up friends!  We're almost through.

One week to go for the Yellow and Blue.

Its been a busy month and the bills are due,

But can you ship a little box?  Maybe one or two?

Aspirin, burn cream, beef jerkey to chew,

Whatever you send, the sailors will view.

What will we end up with?  Haven't got a clue.

For everything that is sent, I sincerely thank you!

My Sailor is home on leave he asked me what all the stuff in the corner was? I told him it was for my care packages for the Molly's Adopt A Sailor Project. Told him that we adopted the Yellow and Blue Crew on the USS George Washington. He said all this stuff is going to them, I said yes.. He walked over gave me the biggest hug ever and said that is so cool mom.. Please keep that up...  Tears came to my eyes...

Aww! Thanks for sharing that Pentwater! Tears in my eyes as well! Hug on your sailor for me too please!!

Hi Laura, I just wanted to let you know that I will be sending out two boxes either Saturday morning 6/23/12 or first thing Monday morning 6/25/12. One box has first aid/personal care stuff and the other box has fun/food stuff. Thanks so much to this group for doing this. You guys are absolutely wonderful! I'm happy to be able to help out. This particular group is very special to me because my sailor is in this group. Again, thanks a million!

WE NEED A BIG PUSH FOR THE YELLOW AND BLUE

THIS IS THE FINAL WEEK BEFORE SHIPPING!

Do we have any packing parties out there?  Our numbers aren't looking too good right now for the USS Washington "Yellow and Blue" adoption.  :(

We have 187 sailors in this adoption.  Here is the breakdown as of right now:

33 food boxes = 5.67 sailors per box

9 First aid/personal boxes = 20.78 sailors per box

Come on folks!  We can do this!  Lets help our, hot, tired, hungy, battered and burned yellow and blue crew!

I can get a box together for this group. Just can't tell ya a box of what yet....

Thank you!
