My son's last full day at home is July 1 and he takes his final Oath on the 2nd. It seems as if the days are out of control and seem to be going by Much faster than I want them to.

A part of me wants to do the normal thing and make plans for July 4, but at the same time I feel bad about having fun while he can't.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I do understand your feelings. My son leaves on the 1st of July. I am making the best out of our last days together. We have to believe....as parents this is the time of their life we have prepared them for. We are so lucky to be alive to see them grow and grow up to step into their next chapter in their life. Stay strong

You are sooo very right.

I think when they go to college, we get to see them grow up in front of us, but when they go into the military, they grow up away from us and then we see them. I don't know which is harder, seeing them have learn life's lessons the hard way or seeing the military keep them from them, but making them grow up at the same time.

We are very blessed moms to have kids that put the freedoms of others before themselves.

Mine flies out July 2nd, but has to go to the recruiter on the 1st and go to the hotel.  Our last full day with him is the 30th, and that's his party.  Time is flying by!

I am pretty sure that is what is happening here. Mine flies out the same time frame out of Sacramento. Mine doesn't want a party...he is very low key. We will stay in touch. If I ask too much he gets up set. I just want to be sure he has everything he needs. I am sure he is going through some anxiety, mixed emotions and doesn't want to share it with his Mom... We just have to hang in there right?

My son originally had mixed feelings about a party.  He didn't want to "make a big deal" - but I insisted.  This IS a big deal.  Our family lives in another state, for the most part, and other events have come and gone without them there (not because they didn't want to - but we never wanted to put everyone out).  This is the most important thing he's done in his life, and I wanted to be sure to ask them to be there to support him.  Happily, they are all coming (with one or two exceptions of cousins who won't be home).  He's happy and excited.  I'm a wreck.

CookieGVB, where is your son flying out of? My son will be leaving out of Atlanta.

We are in the same boat. My birthday is the 3rd, so instead of a party for himself, he wants to celebrate my birthday.....that is my boy.

We live in NJ, right between a whole bunch of different airports, so not sure if he's going to Philly or flying out of Newark.  He should find out tomorrow - I think he has to see his recruiter.
