so my boyfriend is in bootcamp and scheduled to graduate at the end of July. I have a friend with a Navy boyfriend and her along with this site has taught me im not allowed to kiss or hold his hand when i finally get to see him after 2 months? i understand the kissing but hand holding seems a bit much.. any who, so if i happen to kiss him on the cheek just a peck, would that get him in trouble? im just looking for a more concrete list of dos and donts so i dont end up making him have an extra week of bootcamp as punishment.

oh okay. ive just hear that off base even they have people watching when you're in a public place

yes there are guys out walking around watching too. My husband noticed a lot of guys from the base out walking around the mall while we were there in civilian clothes.

okay that makes sense.. i jsut assumed that we werent allowed to kiss them at all haha but thank you :)

I was also very concerned about this, my hubby graduates on 7/20.  The uniform code even says they are not allowed to hold a child while in uniform, and we have a 6 month old baby that I'm sure he would like to cuddle.  The one exception to the no PDA rule seems to be right before or right after a long separation/deployment.  I'm pretty sure bootcamp counts.  I have watched several YouTube videos or PIR and everyone seems to get some sort of hug.  I wouldn't play tonsil hockey, but a moderate kiss and a hug should be okay.  The recruits are going to be briefed on this before PIR, so I would just follow his cues.  When he pulls away, let him go.  Unfortunately, they are required to remain in their complete uniform for the entire weekend.  I have a hotel room booked for the whole weekend so we can get rid of the P part and it won't be a PDA.

When you first see them after graduation yes you can kiss them and hug them, obviously still nothing excessive. But yes throughout the weekend no kissing in uniform and you put your hand in the crook of his elbow.. I think their left side...cant remember its been awhile. While he is in uniform which they have to be the entire weekend no PDA in public. whether or not it makes sense it is the rules. Its how he is supposed to act in uniform. Its part of what being in the military is all about. We barely went out at all anyways he wanted to go back to the hotel and just stay there until it was time to grab food and take him back. He walked around in boxers all weekend in the room pretty much.

Meagan - that's awesome!  I was totally planning on taking his "jammy shorts" so he could be comfy in our hotel and not worry about getting baby drool all over his uniform. Plus he is a dark chocolate addict and I am bringing him some, so I would hate to have to find a cleaner for his dress whites after a chocolate mishap.

It is the left side, he has to have his right arm free to salute when necessary.  I read one Navy Wife's suggestion to either always walk on his left side or walk three steps back so you don't get whacked with an elbow when he salutes.  I mentally filed that.

lol Its been over a year so I couldnt remember lol! outside of BC they really dont wear their uniforms out and about so I dont have to worry about it much. The next time I see him in uniform will be after this long deployment so I really wont have to worry about it too much then bc we are going straight home so he can change.

Oh man, I will have to take him some, he HATES those!  Do they have to wear them under the uniform all the time, or can they pick their own underwear once out of boot?  If they can wear boxers, do they have to be a certain color?  I'll just get him a pack of underwear and save him some shopping.  Although by now, he probably misses Target, lol.

He will need to keep the "whitie tightie" undies for things like seabag inspections and stuff, but once he's out in the fleet and done with school and everything (and, honestly, even while they're in their A school), as long as they are wearing underwear and as long as it's not visible through their uniform (so, like, no black silk boxers in your white uniform...), they don't care, you can wear whatever underwear you want.

Now, the socks and T shirts are a different matter... Especially the T shirts.

My boyfriends graduation was in april, and after i finally found him in the crowd, we stood there hugging for a good 4 minutes and no one said anything. He did tell me he wasnt allowed to kiss me a lot right there and had to wait til we got to the car so we headed to the exit pretty fast lol. He did give me a few pecks right after the ceremony, but yes, nothing excessive is allowed.

The thing about "people watching them"... well yes and no.  No one is assigned to go out and watch the new kids on liberty.  However, you're near a huge Navy base.  There's a lot of sailors, staff and student sailors.  Any Navy service member who sees a new sailor acting incorrectly in uniform is allowed to walk up to the new sailor and correct  their behavior.  Usually it is simply a friendly reminder.  They don't have to be their boss, or in uniform themselves, they just have to be Navy.  Pretty hard to be anonymous near Great Lakes or even in Chicago.   Happens less in the fleet, but by then, most sailors have the hang of how to act so they don't draw attention to themselves.

Think of it this way, your sailor just busted his ass to have the privilege of wearing the uniform of the greatest Navy in the world, to represent his country and all Americans.  He is now a professional service member.  You want to honor his hard work and service.  He isn't all yours anymore, when in uniform, he belongs to all of us.  Very prideful thing.  So that may make it easier to keep the PDA limited and in the hotel room, and be happy about it.

I like the way you put it Anti M!!

lol My husband was like I just went through hell in BC I really dont want to get in trouble by being stupid and breaking a rule like holding a hand so lets just not do it. lol
