Although I know I am not alone....I cried on and off beginning the weekend before he left.  I felt like a part of me is gone...  A bundle of emotions is the best way I can describe it.  Today I was trying to figure out what I am suppose to do with all of his things.  It is odd not knowing what he will need or want when he is finished with Basic. 

I am extremely proud of my son for the choice he has made (he will be going into Nucs), but a mom will always be a mom.   :)

Hello Kellie,

I will say it does seem to be getting a little better with each passing day, but I still miss my boy.  I am still waiting on my "envelope".

Glenda I am so glad to hear that it is getting better, just take each day and soon it will be PIR. I know exactly what you mean with missing him...we spend most days for the last 18 or + years with them needing us, needing our nurturing, love, and protection then poof, everything is different. I sure hope you get your letter soon (preferably today) :)   I was beyond thrilled when I went to the mailbox just a bit ago and there it was...talk about emotions! (I am in Idaho and I know others with BC date of 06/19/12 have been receiving the letter for the last day or two so yours will be anytime as well)  Do you already have info on his ship/div? My SR is Ship 03 USS Hopper Div 253 PIR 08/17/2012 and is Nuclear as well. Will be going to A School in Charleston SC...maybe ours are in BC ship/div together :)  Well, if you ever need to chat I am here and I am looking forward to hearing how it is going for you ((hugs))

Good morning ladies :)

     Wanted to see how you are all doing after making it through the first week with our sons/daughters away at BC. Luckily for my family we have begun to move through the cloud of sadness that was so overpowering those first few days. I still am having my moments of tears and worry but at least it is no longer an all day event :)

     We still have not received the official form letter yet but I will be stalking the mailman again today in hopes of its arrival :) I have been seeing a few with the same BC day that have just received theirs in the last day or so and I can only assume that ours will be here shortly!

     I have found an amazing outlet that has done wonders for me...I am creating a scrapbook for my SR that I started just days ago and what a comfort it is bringing me to just (daily and multiple times) open it and look at the pictures and his location of his ship (so I can picture where he is sleeping). Please if you haven't stopped in on the thread for survival guide for navy for moms newbie http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/survival-guide-for-navy-for... be sure too, wonderful links and video's to see exactly what takes place when they arrive etc. I actually used the map provided on that thread and then went to google earth (after quite a bit of time and patience, was able to "see" exactly where they are and even his ship) and it brought such a peace to me. Probably because not knowing was making me crazy with worry :) *send me a message if you are unable to find it and I can send you the screen shot I took from google earth so you too can see it :)

     I hope today brings each of you comfort if you are sad and hoping that it too is becoming more bearable :)

I too drove my son to the recruiter's office on 6/19 and they drove him to Raleigh NC that evening, he went to MEPS the next morning 6/20, then flew from RDU to Chicago that afternoon.  All day that day I was able to call him & text him, when he arrived at the USO at O'Hare he quickly got off the phone.  I think he was told to get off the phone, because I got his final call at around 12:30am, which lasted all of 20 seconds.  I figured the conversation would have been short, but it was over before I realized it. 

Each day has gotten easier but its been hard to get used to him not being upstairs in his room.  I received his box of things on 6/27, but I still haven't received the official letter telling me his address, Division or his official PIR.  From what others have said on this website, the PIR should be 8/17/2012, but I would feel much better once I knew for sure.

     Just wanted to see how you are doing and if your SR's PIR did end up being 08/17/2012? Hope you are doing well and that each day has continued to get better for you ((hugs))

Hi Glenda,

     Well, we have only 30 more days until until PIR...are you able to make it to Great Lakes? My husband, 2 teenagers and SR's girlfriend will be driving from Southwestern Idaho so that should prove to be very interesting LOL :)  

     I have received a bit of letters and thankfully only one that tore me to shreads and the rest he had re-focused and all was good. I still have days where the pain of missing him is unbearable but knowing that we are on the downhill slide to be able to see him brings my heart such joy! I have not received a phone call as of yet and that has been difficult but at least I look forward to the letters each Thursday :)

    Well, I was just thinking of you and hoping that your days were getting easier...let me know if I can do anything :)
