My son Sam is also leaving on the 3rd for GL.  He's leaving from Columbus, OH.  He is my one and only :(  I have taken him out to dinner every night for the last month!  It's cost me a fortune but the time together has been amazing.   Stay strong.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing.

Have you gotten stamps for your SR, had the talk about what major things he wants to know about and what he doesn't, got an idea as to what he wants you to bring him to PIR, taken care of his financial stuff, put his letter into his wallet, made sure has pictures of those important to him, gotten his POA taken care of if he did one, etc?

We will get through this ladies.

Yes to all the above. This site is amazing! I was just thinking...do I have everything? Did I take care of everything? and your email came through...how fabulous! I do have one question...will they need a watch with alarm? I thought I read somewhere that they would need one due to having no phone. Thank you again for your support!

Hi, My son leaves for GL from Dallas on the 3rd.  I feel so guiltly.... I am on vacation with family in N.C. ( that has been in planning for a year).  I will miss him being sworn in!  My husband will be there, told him to hold the phone up!

Kyle has done 2 years of college and has spent 2 summers away at Drum Corp.,  but this is hard, no cell phones or email!

The first couple of weeks will be difficult, be strong ladies!!

anyone from DFW area out there?

My Son leaves on July 1st from Sacramento to GL. I'm excited, scared and sad all at one time! I have to remember this is his choice and I know he will do great!

Thanks for everyone's support!

Anyone else leaving from Sacramento, CA?

Well, we are kind of uncertain if my son will ship on Monday.

His wallet was stolen out of his car Wed, night, he told us last night (he thought he had just misplaced it), and we spent all day today getting everything replaced.

At this point, he does not have an actual social security card on him, however this is on in his file and he does have a form that is called a "new me" in lieu of his SS form. The lady at the social security office assured him that the Navy would accept this.

We will not know anything for sure until Monday when my son goes to MEPS in preparation to say his final Oath, sign his  final contract, and ship out.

We are thankful that we had today to take care of all of this.

How is everyone else doing?

Well, my son leaves on Monday, July 1st. Right now I am busy with worry. Did I get everything he is going to need? That kinda stuff. I am sure I am going to be a wreck after we have dinner Sunday at the hotel and I leave him.

I do have a question...should he be taking his passport? I haven't read anything about this.

I just love this site!

Thank you

I have not read anything about needing a passport and my SR's recruit has not said anything to him about it. Believe me, after today, I'm sure we would have been reminded about it if we needed it.

Know that we are all here for you and will be in the same boat these next several weeks.

I still have to get another phone card, print off my letter to him to put in his wallet, print off some pictures for his wallet, and get him a book of stamps.

For those of us that have SRs leaving out on Monday. Tonight is our last night with them. How is everyone handling this?

We are celebrating my birthday ( is actually the 3rd) so that our son can be a part of it. He gave me a Beautiful insulated Navy cup for my birthday. He knows that I always keep something to drink a work so this will Definitely be on my desk/with me when I got back to work at the end of July.

Other than that, I am demanding that we  spend every second possible as a family. Even a trip to WalMart will include all 4 of us this evening/tomorrow before we meet up with his recruiter.

(((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) for everyone.

We are Navy Strong Moms :)

GaNukeMomma,

My son goes to MEPS tomorrow, then sworn in on Tuesday. This is the first full day that it has hit me that in less than 24 hours my son will be leaving. The tears start the minute I think about it and I'm not usually an emotional person. Josh went around today and said his good-byes to all the important people in his life. We offered to take him out to dinner but he just wanted to stay home and be with us. We're having a cookout later and feeding him real well. Tomorrow and Tuesday are going to be really hard. Hope everyone is enjoying these last few hours with their kids.

Just an idea....have your SR write down any phone number (most likely from his cell phone) into his address book that he even thinks he may want to call when he gets the chance. We all want to think that we will be the only one that he calls, but I'm also a realist. I've even had my son write down my phone number and his dad's phone number. These kids will be under A LOT of stress, brain lapses are going to happen and it would really stink for everyone involved if it happened at the opportunity to call.

If is tooo late to have him do this, then write him a letter and include the numbers.

My son just called, he's at the hotel. He said that it looks like he is going to have a busy night of meetings concerning his shipping out. I asked his recruiter if he expected any problems at MEPS since my son does not have his social security card and he said that the main thing that it would be needed for is boarding the plane. Thankfully, my son took his birth certificate along with his "New Me" form that the social security office gave him. Thus, I expect that everything will be an all go tomorrow.

I will start a discussion  in Boot Camp Moms titled:  Shipping the Week of July 2. That way we can move to the next phase of this and still stay together.

Day by day ladies, we will get through this together.
