For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Just left for MEPS
My son just left with the recruiter about an hour ago. I held up well, only cried a little in front of him, then lost it once he was out of sight! I'm very proud of his choices, but it's hard to let go!
He'll stay at a hotel in St. Louis tonight, then do MEPS tomorrow and I'm told they are driving to Great Lakes instead of flying...6 hours, shouldn't be too bad!!

I also just left my son at the MEPS hotel. I feel like my heart has been ripped out but Im so proud of him at the same time. I'm really not sure how to feel at the moment. We texted goodnight and now I sit here bawling. This is so hard!

Did you ladies get your phone call? Blake called me a little before 7 and it's taken me this long to be able to talk about it!! I did get to text him throughout the day since they drove instead of flying.

My son also left with the recruiter Wednesday and stayed overnight to do the final swearing in this morning. My last phone call from him was that he is at the Louisville airport waiting for his 4:00 flight to Chicago. Then I guess we'll get the infamous "I'm here" last call tonight. Sigh!!

Our last call came from O'Hare. He said there was a large group of recruits there and didn't have time to talk. We're waiting for the final "I'm OK" call. All this waiting is torture!

He texted me "I'm here" then I asked if I'd get the official call and he said yes. His text was at 6:45 and the call was at 6:53. I wasn't expecting it so soon. He said, "I'm here, I'm safe, you'll get a box in a couple of weeks". I said, "I love you" and it went dead. 11 seconds according to my phone. That's when I broke down, I laid in bed and cried for half an hour, then I called my mom to let her know he was there.

I can finally talk about this...it has been a tough couple days. When Dakota called he was upbeat and yelled "love you mama" just as the phone cut off. I've been a mess since. I have read that they don't get much sleep the first couple days so I've been worried about him being tired. :(. I know it sounds silly but he's still my baby!

People keep asking me about Blake, I really want to say "can you quit asking? I can't talk about it" but I tell the story, then cry again when I get home! His prom date posted some lyrics on Facebook, then said it just wasn't the same without Blake...that made me cry.
We are moms, we have the right to miss them and the right to be emotional!!
My dad was crying yesterday, I tried to tell him it would get easier with time, I hope I'm right!! -

I'm new to being in "groups," following "threads," and being sure I'm commenting and replying to the right "discussions." But it seems that there at least four of us who sent our kids to Great Lakes this week: MoMof4, ethansmom, Dakota's Mom, and me (KYmom). I think I understand that there may be as many as 10 divisions or approx. 88 recruits that graduate each week. So even though our kids may have arrived at Great Lakes on different days this week, they will "probably" have the same PIR date, correct? If this is true, what do the early arrivals do while they wait for the rest to arrive? Do they wait and start P-days together?
This is why I ask - I've heard stories from other moms and from our recruiter that they are very picky doing the physical exam. One boy was sent back because his allergy waiver wasn't in his paperwork, another was sent back because he had an ingrown toenail. Our recruiter was even worried about a scrape on Adam's knee. He said it was imperitive that it be healed before going to GL. In theory, the physical exam takes place on about the 3rd day of P-days. How can I "guesstimate" when that day is? Once I know he's passed his exam I can breathe easier.

I think our PIR "should be" 8/24/12, the latest group showing up is 8/17, but they did say they skip a week sometimes, but the following weekend is Labor Day, I guess we'll find out when we get the form letter....I'm anxious, already looking into hotels!!
There is a girl from town that will arrive at RTC on Tuesday and the recruiter said she'd be in Blake's graduating class, so I don't know how they go about determining dates! -
