Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My Son Ships out on July 3...

Hello!
I'm new to the site, but have been reading all of the posts on the boot camp forum. I'm so glad that there's that much love and support out there, since I know that others are going through what I'm feeling too...weepy, teary, proud and a little worried (They didn't mention THOSE dwarves, did they!!)

I just wanted to ask a quick question:

My son's orders say that PIR will be on Sept. 3, although he hasn't even left yet. I was looking at the boot camp for families site on the Navy.mil and saw that all graduations are on Fridays? Can anyone speak to that?

I appreciate all of the information and support that I'm finding here...Thank you in advance for the responses!

He will not know for sure when his PIR is UNTIL he gets to bootcamp.  Also yes PIR are almost always on fridays...with some expections...if the holiday falls on a friday, than it will be on Thur.  Also on the week of Thanksgiving, PIR falls on a Wendsday.  PIR do not ever fall on a Monday.

 

Some people on here may guess when the PIR will be...but all it is is a guess.

I went through this last October, and will be going through it again the end of July. The worst thing was when the box of her clothes came home along with her cell phone. It is kind of a reality check then. But, it is something we get through. Best wishes to your son! My oldest said there is nothing like standing there at PIR and knowing you have succeeded!

Hi, my daughter left for boot camp from Denver yesterday July 2nd. Does anyone else have a loved one who left yesterday?

Hi proudcomom,

It has been a rough few days, I just feel like a peice of my heart is missing right now. I am sure it will get better everyday and I am going to just stay busy with no time to think about it. How about you? It's been a week now right? Any letters yet? Thats what I am waiting for is the letters, the not knowing anything is really making it worse I think.
We have her address already and have already wrote several letters but I have heard they don't give them any mail until their second Sunday there. Have you heard anything like that?

This has been one of the hardest things in my life.  I feel like a piece of me is missing too.  It has helped so much to come to this site every day a read all of the posts.  Everyone is so supportive! 

I just got word from home that my son's box(s) came today.  I have mixed feelings about opening the box though.  On one hand i'm happy that it arrived today, but on the other i'm kind of afraid to open it after reading some of the other mom's posts that said how sad they were when they opended their boxes.  That's awesome that you have an address already.  I heard that we won't know where to send the letters until we get the "form letter".  I'm checking the mail as soon as I get home. 

I've bought several cards to try to cheer him up.  Not sure what he's feeling at this point, but who couldn't use a laugh.  They made me smile and lately that has been pretty hard to do.  I'm not sure when they first get their mail delivered.  I've heard several people say they get mail 2-3 times during the week and no mail on the weekends.  I'm just going to send letters out constantly and give him enough to read on his time off.  One piece of advice I picked up was to number the letters so they can read them in order.  I thought that was a great idea.  I also heard they don't get to write but on Sundays have you heard that too?

This was great advice, I checked and it looks like the address we have is right it matches the ship # we were given anyway.  It is nice to know that they get mail more than once a week, even if they don't have time to read it at least they know we are thinking about them each day.  

I like the idea of the cards and numbering the letters, I am sure that they will probably get a few of them at once so numbering them makes sense. I went out and bought 100 envelopes and stamps and pre-addressed and stamped them all.  I am going to write at least once a day and watch the pile get smaller and smaller then when they are close to gone I will know graduation time is near.  We are making picture collages from photos, older and recent ones and putting them in with the letters too.  I thought she might enjoy looking at some of the older ones and also receiving the newer ones.  I hope it doesn't make her more homesick though.  I worry about that also.

Thanks for all the advice and ability to share what I am going through, it's hard for those around you to understand.  Its great to be able to share with other moms.

Got the call this morning at 2:51 a.m. He sounded tired, nervous and robotic..."I'm here. You'll get a box in a few days and a letter after that with my address. I love you!" All I could say was that I loved him, was proud of him and to stay strong. Then we hung up.

I'm sure that he's exhausted today, and that he'll be even more so when he hits the sack tonight. I know I am and that I'm a little relieved to know that it will be a few weeks and he'll be in safe hands until we speak again...Firm hands, but safe ones all the same.He's my only one...I have to trust that the Navy will do what's best and that he'll be fine.

In the interim, I'm going to keep busy, and just be Proud and grateful that he's made this choice, as have many before him.

Yes, some with loved ones who left that day have received the form letter confirming 08/31/2012.  You may want to join PIR 08/31/2012.  Do you know the division number?
