Hello everyone! Just stopping by to see if anyone stationed in San Diego know of any cheap/good hotels down there. Visiting my fiance in the next month or so and just wanted to get a heads up. Also fun places/things to do down there. Thanks.

I stayed in the Marriott in Hotel Circle Mission Valley in April as well. It was pretty nice, but I had a friend who works for Marriott and gave me a friend and family discount and even then it wasn't cheap (I'm a college student though, so nothing is cheap). If you stay on hotel circle then there is a pretty nice shopping center within walking distance (ask for a walking map when you check in). There are also a couple cute diners on that road that are reasonably priced. They have a pretty nice zoo that isn't too far from the airport. There is an amazing mexican restaurant in downtown, I can't remember the name but it doesn't sound very mexican at all (Tommy's or something like that). The best burrito I've ever had and a really fun and laid back atmosphere.

Hotel Circle is were you will find the best deals. We stayed at the Days Inn but also notice other good hotels in the area.

There is quite a lot to do and see. On Harbor drive downtown is an area called Seaport Village with shops, restaurants, fish market, and some performers. We enjoyed walking the area and ate at a couple restaurants. A little north of the Village is the USS Midway which is now a historic maritime museum which we found interesting.  Went on a harbor cruise with Hornblower cruises.  Old Town was fun to walk around and learn its history.  Cabrillo National Monument was interesting.  I could go on and on   If you do want to go on a cruise or to a certain museum remember your fiance can get a discounts by buying tickets at the NEX.

You'll have a great time it is a beautiful area.

  • My son in law and daughter just got stationed in San Diego. Short orders. They are having a hard time finding housing..

  • They want off base because they are a small family and all houses are for 2 story homes with 4 bedrooms. They know that they won't get it.

    • Any ideas where they can get a home that 2 bd/2 bath and about 1000 square that is pet friendly. They have 2 small dogs.

    • right now they are unloading their stuff into storage to get rid of the moving van and car carrier.

    • Thanks in advance!
