Who else has a SR leaving for GL this week?

My son is at the hotel right now. We will go see him take his Oath in the morning and spend a bit more time with him before he leaves.

My son took a shuttle from  recruiting station to hotel and didnt leave until next day arrived but didnt hear from him until after midnight.. I was not able to be there for his oath he was in the delayed entry program while he was waiting to graduate high school. Now he is there and I miss him, and his little brother and I are looking forward to hearing from him. Thanks in advance for any advice or information as to what to expect.

Good morning and welcome Helen!
I hope that you're having a great day and that you're starting to feel a little less Raw...

From everything I've read, you'll be getting a box with his civilian clothes and belongings in a few days, then a form letter with his address and other important info (don't lose it!) such as graduation date and passwords for the gate. After 2-3 weeks, they may have time to write letters and possibly a phone call after 3 weeks, depending on the whole division's progress (it's an earned privilege) and his duty post.

The motto out here is "No news is good news." I know for me that's the hardest part...not knowing. We just have to keep in mind that we've raised them well, and that they'll do their best. Beyond that, it's out of our control.

Do take a bit of time to go out to the other discussions and really get a feel for things...there's so much information out there, so don't overwhelm yourself...and definitely ASK if you have questions. This is the most supportive group I've ever experienced...I hope you'll feel that way too!

Good morning ladies.

I hope everyone had a good July 4th.

I'm having kind of a hard time this morning. I'm Really wanting to hear my son's voice telling me that everything is okay, he loves me, etc. But at the same time, we all know that if we were to hear our SR's voice right now, it would not be a good thing. I keep having to remind myself that no news is good news.

Have any of you started cleaning your SR's room, if they left it in  a mess?

I look at my son's room and bathroom every time I do a load of laundry and I keep telling myself that I'll get to it.

I did realize yesterday that our SRs will be half way through boot camp when I go back to work and get my students back  on Aug. 1. I do believe that this is the very first summer in 18 years of teaching that I have wished my summer away like this. Oh, the things we will do for our kids :)

Prayers and hugs

Our 4th was uneventful, except maybe for all of the noise from the fireworks and the dog who hates the noise!!LOL...I did get a little melancholy when I thought about our SR's and whether they had gotten to see any of the celebration at GL.

Today I am cleaning out the "Mancave" aka the boy's room... it's funny how much junk they accumulate and how it's reallly nothing of great importance...like old school binders shoved under the bed, and papers...oh the papers!!LOL.

I boxed up some of the childhood books from his headboard and cleaned that out. Rearranged the drawers (aka folded clothes!!LOL) and am in the process of putting things back in order now and putting sheets back on the bed.

It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it might be...even when I came across his old teddy bear! I just said a quick prayer and went on.

GANuke...we have more in common than I realized!! I too am a teacher, and purposefully didn't make any plans for June so I could spend time with my SR...I have 2 things planned for July, but will be itching to go back well before it's time I'm sure. Bittersweet, since my son always helped me set up my class, and went around and helped others with boxes, moving furniture and hooking up computers. Several of my friends at school have already commented on how they'll miss him at that time.

I hope that when you do get to it, you can smile and feel closer to him...and realize that he'll be done with RTC and on to A school in no time...speaking of which, where is he going to A school?''

I'm so glad that I found this page...and that we have such a wonderful support network!! Thanks to all who are out here, and all of the great info.

Have a great day!

Yes, it is amazing how much our kids accumulate. I've gone into my son's room and most of what I have to clean up is high school stuff and clothes. I'm planning on getting to it this weekend. My son had a Simba that he had grown up with and had given it to his little sister before he left.

What do you teach (grade and subject). I teach all academic subjects to 6th,7th, and 8th grade students who have mild/moderate intellectual disabilities. The average IQ of most of my students is around 60. I can not imagine teaching anything else....I started teaching in this area this past Sept. after teaching in a variety of special education settings over 17 years.

My SR has always been a HUGE help to me and my coworkers as well.  He has been helping me for soo long and knows how I like things to the point that he can help me set up my classroom without asking where I want things and I can find them later on when I need them. He has also been a huge help with his little sister by keeping her when I have work days and such. I'm very blessed that my 72 year old dad has offered to help me with my classroom and keep my daughter.

I'm smiling more and more each day. I know that it is what my SR would want. Life without him in our home is going to be a forever way of life for us so we need to get use to it and make the most of it.

He  will be going to Goose Creek, SC for A school, Power school, and Prototype school. It will be almost 2 years before he ever sees the Fleet...he is a sub volunteer. Where will your SR going to be?

My SR will only be about 4 hours from us then so seeing him will be much easier.

This site and specifically all of you are a blessing to me.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

We will definitely be at Sarges the night before PIR. We are leaving soon after I get home from work on Wed. so that we don't have to rush to get up there.

We will all have our good and our bad days. We have a place to vent and share those times with. I look at this as my "safe" place, a place where everyone understands how I'm feeling and such.

The evenings tend to be a bit harder for me because I wonder what my SR is doing. That is our family time at home and it just feels strange not having him here with us. We are a family that where you see one, you generally see all 4.  I have time to think in the evenings (until I go back to work on the 26th) when my husband and daughter go to bed.

Now I'm just rambling.

I need to go write my SR about our day here. I sent address labels with yesterday's letter so that he doesn't have to write that and it saves time. I think he is planning on sending most letters home and then letting me get them where they need to go. Makes sense to me :)

Ramble away GA!! We're all feeling a little raw...and spacy too!

I began the first letter today...I'm just going to keep writing on it until I get an address then I'll print it out (My handwriting is horribly and almost illegible!) and send it...along with stamps and whatever else I can cram into an envelope!

I hope that each day is easier...and when it's not...I'm right here!!
Together, we'll get through it!
L.

It seems we all have a lot in common, my son arrived at base around midnight on the morning of the 4th, and reading these posts and seeing the amazing similarities has been comforting.   For instance the Mancave aka boy's room, wow I had him clean before he left and I still managed to get 3 bags of trash from under the bed, closet and dresser!  I do not feel alone when I rearranged his drawers and put sheets back on my sons bed!  I do keep walking back down the hall and looking in his room not sure if I'm looking for him or just amazed at how clean his room is!  My son Kyle is going to be a nuke as GANuke mom, and I also work for the school district.... It looks like we may all meet in Great Lakes come September!!!

I look forward to reading ya'll posts!

Hello! And yes, it does!

The mancave thing is hilarious...what they think is clean...bet that's changing pretty fast!! I can't help but go in there daily, since that's where they workout equipment is...of course, that's the perfect excuse NOT to workout...but I promised myself I'd spend time getting back in shape when he was gone...no reason now since my time is all my own, at least for another month or so.

My best friend from college lives in Houston, and we keep talking about me coming to visit...now I'll have more than one reason to go!!

I've friended you, so feel free to message me and we can start getting to know each other better!!

Thanks!
L.

It will get easier...I promise. I have cried less with each day. From what I read, once we get to that point, the box arrives and we start all over.

We are here for each other. We are Navy Strong moms, girlfriends, wives, etc..

My Son left Monday the 2nd but we were able to have dinner with him around 5 that evening and come back the next morning to see him taking his Oath! We were able to stay at MEPS several more hours before his bus ride to the Airport.

He continued to text during his bus ride and wait at the Airport.  Once they arrived, they spent time at the USO, had dinner and made the final journey to BC.

We received his call around 9p and he was able to use his cell to make his final call!

How's everyone doing on day 3?

Welcome Pam!
My son/SR shipped out on Tuesday and I got my call at 3 am Wed...it was a very long night indeed!

I think that we're all slowly getting back to normal...and with time and the support we get here, we'll be able to be truly genuine in our upbeat and positive letters/communications with our SR's.

I'm glad you found us....there's so much good information out here and so much support!
