Yes I do. My youngest son - just graduated in May. He played trombone for his HS marching band. Still looking for a personal letter from him, have only recieved the "form" letter thus far.
Join the group, PIR 08/17/2012TG 40 — 13 Divisions (249–260 & 940). There is a discussion within that group for that division. Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation. Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions, The Requirements for the Navy RTC 900 Division
There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though. I believe that Division 940 is a Triple Threat Division.
Triple Threat is comprised of those who are on that weeks' Jr. Rifle Drill team and all those who were chosen for their musical abilities. The Blue Jacket Choir performs the National Anthem, Anchors Aweigh, and anything else they've been tasked with. The band plays at various time throughout the ceremony. The Drum Corps also marches and helps everyone else stay in step and keep time.
Watch the RTC’s fB page beginning 2 weeks before your SR’s PIR and you may catch a glimpse of your SR.

Thank you so much for this information!! My son said he was in Div 940 (he played trombone in his HS marching band) - so of course I was very curious what this all meant. :) Can I assume being in the 900 Divisions the SR have it harder or easier than the ones in different Divisions? Thanks again for the great information!
You are so welcome. They have to do everything that those in the regular divisions do and add practices for the PIR's that they will perform in and for any other performance if they are fortunate enough to be involved in any in the community. They tend to come together as a team faster than other divisions because of the extra duties that they have. It all depends on your SR's attitude on how hard or easy he finds it. I've heard that sometimes they give up time that they could be writing to study or get in extra practice time, so letters may be shorter or not happen some weeks.
Thanks lemonelephant. I did a search on Ship 02 Div 940 but didn't find anything. I will go and joint the Training Group page. bneville, I have been writing every day since my son left and only got the form letter. He did write a nice long paragraph on the form letter but that is also all I heard from him. Maybe we'll get our phone call in a couple of weeks. That's what I really look forward to. This is not my first rodeo; my first son was also in a 900 division. I was so proud of him at graduation!!! Just like we will be proud of these recruits at their graduation. Hope to talk to you again!!!
