Well, my son Alex arrived in Great Lakes yesterday and am looking for anyone who may be experiencing or would like to share information.  I started letter writing last night to have plenty ready to go when we are able to send them.

How's everyone doing with Day 1?

I am right here with you.

My son/SR arrived in Great Lake Monday night.

Monday  night and yesterday were VERY hard. Today is a little better. I think mainly because I'm hoping that he is getting a chance to rest and catch up on some badly needed sleep. I'm really hoping that the Drill Sargents are a little easier on them today because it is July 4th and that our SRs are also inside and not in the heat.

I've read that just as you start to get ok with everything, you get the Box. I'm expecting it by the end of the week.

I started writing last night. I'm asking everyone that knows my son to write him letter, get him cards of friendship and encouragment. If they will get them, put a return address on them and stamp them, I will put his address on it as soon as I get it and mail it it for them. I may space some of the cards out a day or so at a time so that he gets mail every day.

Our SRs have each other's support and we have each other on this end. PIR will be here before we know it :).

Happy July 4th.

Hi, my son Trent, arrived in Great Lakes last night too. My daughter and I watched him take his Oath and then waited at the airport with him. It was great being there with him but I could see he was getting ready to get things moving.   It was a very long day. I got the official call just after 11 last night from him on base. It was a very short and quiet call like I have read about others. Today is a "mixed feeling" day; especially seeing all the patriotic things on TV and the soldiers overseas giving messages. I am proud of him but also miss him a lot!

I'm right there with ya ladies!  My boyfriend arrived at Great Lakes yesterday and I got the call at 1:15am their time.  I can only imagine how exhausted they are!

I'm hoping the same thing GANukeMomma....that maybe since it's the 4th they are able to have some "down time".

I miss him so much already but am very excited and proud!

I'm looking forward to getting the box and hopefully letters so I can hear more about what they are doing and learning.....and hopefully PIR will be here before we know it!

My daughter Lyndsey left Monday and arrived at BC last night. I got the call just after 11. She was crying and said she loved me before she hung up. I hope they didn't give her a hard time about it. I cried a lot on Monday but am much better now. I miss her but know this was a great step for her. I'm proud of all our kids!

Hi Wendy,

My daughter is in the same group as Justin. Ship 12 Division 269. I got the box today but no form letter. From the posts it looks like their PIR dates will be 8/31. I am waiting for the official notice though. Keep me posted on what you hear and I will do the same. Here's hoping that the time goes quickly for all of our SRs!

Make that 3 in the same division - my son is 269, too.  :)
