Who else has a SR leaving for GL this week?
My son is at the hotel right now. We will go see him take his Oath in the morning and spend a bit more time with him before he leaves.

Those with younger kids, did your SR do/leave something special for them so that the SR is never far from them while he/she is at bootcamp?
My son made his little sister a teddy bear at Build A Bear a few weeks before he left, he dressed it in the Navy White uniform, had a heart tattoo with an anchor drawn in it sewn onto one of its arm, and he recorded his voice into one of the voice boxes that tells her he loves her. He even slept with it a few nights before he left so that it would have his scent on it. The Bubba Bear (as she calls it) goes Everywhere with us. He also left his Navy shirt for her and it is now her pillow case. The Bubba Bear is his little sisters forever. I pity the person that tries to get it from her. I expect that he will get his shirt back after boot camp.
He left me with his chain and cross that he always wore around his neck. He said it is too big for him to take to boot camp. He will get it back when we go up for PIR.
That is too sweet!! She's lucky to have a big brother who cares so much! And you've done a fantastic job with them both!!!
YAAAYYYYY ! I received my letter today !!! Ship 09 Div 273 ... No box yet , but FINALLY an address and confirmation of PIR 8/31
Yahhhhooooo!!! I've got my fingers crossed for mine today too!
Our SR left for Jacksonville 7/4/12 & made it to GL 7/5/12 in the evening. We got his box 7/10/12 ,but we haven' t gotten his address yet. We are anxiously awaiting a letter so we can start sending ours. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
Well I guess I can uncross them since I still have no letter today. I'm thinking that maybe mine is lost in the mail somewhere and I'll just have to hope that his recruiter gave me correct info (I'm not banking on it for sure...he was new to the job and really had a lot to learn...) So...for now, I just have to hope that where I'm sending things is correct.
Glad to see that so many of you are getting yours and are starting to feel a bit more secure.
Hang in there!
If it helps any of you with your timeline of when you may receive your letters. My daughter left for Great Lakes on July 3rd, we are from Granger Indiana which is 2.5 hours from Great Lakes. I received the form letter on Wednesday (July 11th) that was postmarked July 9th. I hope everyone is holding up ok and finding that it is getting easier as each day passes. I know for me it is. I still miss her like crazy but at least now I am not balling crying all day long as I was the first few days after she left. I am a mom of 4 girls, and never in a million years did I ever think that any of my girls would ever want to go into the military. My daughter told me in April that she wanted to go into the Navy and then in July she is gone. Talk about leaving the nest fast...but I know she will do great and we are so proud of her.
I got it!!! The letter is here....and his recruiter DID have the correct address....big sigh of relief. PIR 8-31...ship 9 div 276....now I can make our arrangements with a little more confidence!!
Thanks all!
Hello everyone! I am butting in here but glad to have found someone with my son's PIR date. I received his letter yesterday and was quite surprised that boot camp is only 8 weeks. Is this the norm? I thought it was 9. Anyways, we are in AZ and thought the letter would never get here. I booked tickets on Southwest the middle of June and was still able to change them last night and get good flights. Southwest has discounted tickets this weekend so I saved $70 dollars. Not bad. I am afraid to book hotels or cars due to change fees. I guess keeping myself busy with this stuff helps time pass. I miss him.
YEAH!! I received mine Monday!!!! He even put a three word message on the flap "miss you guys" (tear!!!!) I have been looking at airfare for a week, now it is time to get serious and buy our tickets!!! As it looks like they leave Saturday for SC (our Nuke SR's) We will just be there for Friday. Hope to meet ya in August!!!
Kyle's Mom,
Our boys will be traveling to A school together :). I would suggest that you try to get there on Thurs and attend Sarge's get together on Thurs evening at the Ramada. I've heard great things about it.
yes mam, that is the plan. Looking to fly in Thur mid-day and back out Saturday!! Quick trip as we will still have a child at home. Little brother isn't too happy that he will not be able to attend, but it is the first week of school :-(
See you then!!
