Well got my call around 11:30 pm my time (california) last night (10th). Was a very short, felt like 30 sec phone call, but he sounded good said he was okay then hung up. IT was too fast. Miss my boy. It is weird to wake up and not see him getting breakfast. On to step two...the box.

I received the call last night at 11:20. I was puzzled since he called from his cell I thought we were going to be able to talk one more time.... He told me it could be three weeks before he is able to call again. Told me to expect "the box" and a letter and told me he had to go. I knew it would be hard I never imagined it would be this hard! It does make me feel more "normal" to see I am not the only one feeling this way. A friend just said to me... We spend all this time building beautiful kites and then have to watch them fly away... I was just not ready for it to be this soon....

To tracyln. I am in total agreement with you and the 'kites' is a great way to put it. My son also called from his cell phone and it was so quick and I had so many questions i felt like i couldn't get them straight quick enough to get them out before he said he had to go. I am just going to put them all in a letter and hope he answers them. 18 years just doesn't seem long enough.

My son arrived at Chicago's O'Hare airport at 5pm today(7/11) from CT-got a quick cell call from him, im sure by now he's at GL. I'm waiting for the "im here at BC" call sometime tonight. He left yesterday, stayed in the Hotel overnight and was at MEPS this morning. All I keep thinking is..."wow this day really does exists!"--Leyann

Well she is at Great Lakes! Got the 15 sec call...now the waiting begins.

Did you get any pics of the girls swearing in again in Cleveland by any chance??...I'm sure you got some of yours, but was wondering if mine might be in any of them. :)

Here's a link to site that breaks down what they're doing on a day-by-day basis...I'm sure there some variation to this, but I've found it kind of comforting having some idea of what they're all doing these first few days.

got the call last night, I am so worried and hope she is ok! :(

Mine was in dep from Oct 6 till Tues July 10th when he shipped and I thought I was ready, while I'm totally fine with the entry into the Navy I didn't realize how empty I wild feel about him leaving the neat The comment about building the kite for 19 years and then it flies away and this was a perfect description.

Now does anyone know the name of the Facebook page for our ship group of July 10th?

hi butterblink

My son (19 yo) shipped out on the 10th as well (from New Orleans).  I do not know about the Facebook page, but I plan to stay here until we receive the form letter and our PIR date.  (Soooo looking forward to knowing that PIR date!)  Then we can break off into discussion by divisions.  Hang in there and keep in touch!

I don't know of a specific FB page for July 10th ( or so) shippersl, but I have been on one for July shippers and there are some mom's ( and dads too maybe), who then set up PIR groups as the info becomes available to them...That's my understanding anyway...Here's a link to the group.

Hi gmastermom.  My son shipped out on the 10th also from the Chicago area.  We are really looking forward to the PIR.  Cannot wait to get the date and information.  Just taking everything day to day and trying to keep busy.
