Welcome srmproundmom. If you go to the PIR Forum just below the Bootcamp Forum, there is a wealth of information and answers to your questions. On the mainpage, there is a subject titled "Survival Kit for Newbie Mom's that has more info in it than you'll know what to do with!
Liberty after PIR is very short, about 7 hours. Most of the new Sailors fly out to their A schools the following morning (Sat.) VERY early. You can meet them at the airport and hang out with them until their flight leaves.
Only your SR will know his particular flight details, but most will fly out the day after PIR. Since your SR has PIR on Labor Day weekend, there is a slight chance that he could be held over a day or more because that Saturday is a high flight volume day and there could be flight availability issues. Don't count on it though. If you are able to, plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday to give you the most time with your Sailor and if you have the option to be more flexible then do, because he may fly out later and you will not know that until PIR, although a few do know when they call to say, "I'm a Sailor!"
