She leaves in five months.  It seems like a long time right now, but I know it's not far away at all.

Well, my daughter's recruiter called this afternoon asking if she wanted to leave in July.  She said yes.  Now we have one month left instead of five.

Hi Sparkyjo! I have two sons going in July 10th and November 20th-we are up in Connecticut. Pass few days have been tough for me Justin leaves in two days, had his send off party last night it was wonderful and it helped having our family and friends around. My son Philip goes in Nov. thats gonna very hard for me- just me and the dog left in the house. -Leyann

My daughter is also leaving November 20,we live in Dallas Texas,She  wants to be C T I ..if  she does get this job her ship date will change..

Hi all this is my first time on here so im learning.. We are from Milo, Iowa and my son leaves for bootcamp November 20th 2012. My husband and I are not dealing with this very well because Austin has never been away from us. Any input would be great.

Thanks

Lonie

My daughter also leaves for boot camp in November. She says she does not know the exact date, just sometime in the middle of november. Maybe it is the 20th. She said she won't be home for Thanksgiving.

Well I'm here with all of u cause my daughter leaves for bootcamp nov 20th too. It's not far away and the time is flyin by. I'm not really upset by it yet but I know the closer it gets then the nerves will get worse she is my oldest I still have my son at home but he graduates high school next year and hopefully will be going on to college and then I will be alone uggh!!!! Will definitely be a sad day.

Hello all!

My 19-yr old daughter also leaves for boot camp (from Dallas) on November 20th.  Her rate is DC (Damage Control) and she says she's looking forward to jumping in with both feet.  I'm so proud and excited for her, but also a teensy bit jealous too, since she'll see more of the world than I've ever been able to!   She's lived with me for the better part of a year now but before that I lived without her in my daily life (as before that she lived with her dad, we divorced VERY amicably 5 years ago and she chose to stay with her friends and such, with my blessing.)  Maybe I've already done the separation anxiety that a lot of you are going through now?

Anyway, I'm certain I'll miss her because I so enjoy her now that she's a young woman and not a child any longer, but I'm glad that November isn't too far off.  Let me explain why.  Upon her 18th birthday she went Marine DEP and her wait time for her ship date was so long that she found herself getting scared and unsure and questioning all her decisions.  She backed out because of all those fears of change and losing the security of home.  She told me later she regretted backing out but that the Marines were a bit too intense for her and she felt she needed to reconsider and research her options a bit more than she had.   I told her to move in with me, get a job, pay bills (including rent to me) and learn how it is to live in the real world while doing the research she needed to do to choose a branch. The military was ALWAYS what she wanted, even when she was a little girl.  So after long and hard consideration, some real world experience (something she hadn't had before) and without much input from me, she chose the Navy.  I can't be more pleased.

So Moms, of course we'll miss our children!  But I am so happy for her, that she can go off and live her own life and be her own woman.  Will I cry?  Not for me, no.  I've had her 19 years and it's time for her to show me what she's made of.  If I cry (maybe a few tears welling up but not shed here and there) it'll be a lovely mixture of pride and rememberence of her younger self.  I can't wait for her to ship and get started!  That's my girl!!!!

My son is now leaving November 20th.  He'll miss Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We're having a Thanksgiving day party, the saturday before he goes.  I'm nervous and excited for him.  This is a new chapter in the start of his young adult life.  He's 18, but very level headed.
