Hi All,

I am new to this site.. My youngest daughter just joined the Navy and since I already have a daughter

in the Marines and have joined Marine Moms I felt it only fair.. My daughter leaves for boot on January

23rd if not sooner.. She will do her A School in Pennsicola FL. Her job will be Aviation Ordinance. Just

wondering if anyone else can give this MoM some info on that particular School and maybe some info

on that job? I am very excited for her I do believe this was the best decision for her to make. Although

I have already been through this once with the Marines the Navy does seem to be different. I have heard

that watching Graduation may not be possible? And I have also heard that they do not come home

after boot? Is this true? Would like any info I can get.. Thanks New Navy Mom.. Julie West

Julie, yes you can go to her graduation. RTC really welcomes sailor families and encourages them to attend if possibly. Well worth the trip. A moment of pride for you and her both. For us it was like a rite of passage, my hubby and myself are ex navy. I can't help you with info on her school, my daughter is a Corpsman. Another group is moms of daughters 2. Real friendly group of moms with daughters. Seems we are out numbered at times.

Thank You so much for the info..

Hi, NewNavyMomJW, I think there is a mom on this site that can answer your questions about Aviation Ordinance. My sailor (son) is a nuke sailor on a submarine. But I just wanted to say welcome and encourage you in your time as a Navy mom.You will certainly get to see graduation from Boot Camp (it is called PIR -- Pass in Review). I highly recommend you attend. "A" school graduation might be another story. My son went through three schools for nuke training and only one had an actual graduation, which I attended. My son did not come home after boot camp but went right to his "A" school a couple days after PIR. Some leave the day OF their graduation. I was very glad I had a room before graduation as he had to get his belongings out of his room the night BEFORE boot camp graduation. I don't understand the Navy sometimes :-) My son had leave after "A" school and that school was 6 months long.

How's your daughter in the Marines doing? I'm glad to hear there is a Marines Mom group. These websites are a great help to us moms and family members. Feel free to just comment in the regular section as we are all here to help. I don't know where you're located but we're having a meet and greet in Sterling Heights on July 29th.

Hey Vickie 1229, I can tell you that my daughter that is in the Marines is actually with the Navy people and yes they do have a graduation.. According to my daughter it is very short and then they hop a plane to their

duty base. Depending on where they have gone to A School it might not be worth going.

Hi Julie, you can go to graduation.  Take lots of tissues.  It is amazing.  Lorraine is right about going right into their school.  We stayed a day after graduation and spent some time with him before going back home.  That was because his "A" school was at GL.  If they are going someplace different, sometimes they leave the day of graduation.  Take lots of pictures and give lots of hugs/kisses.  You don't know when you will see them next.

Hi Julie,

I am also a MArine Mom and a new Navy Mom! My son PIetr joined Marines last Nov and my son Mike left last week for Great Lakes. I am also a member on Marine Family Network.

I thought this time would be easier but it really isn't. I think the only good thing is that it is shorter. However, they do NOT get leave after graduation like they did at Parris Island. You will have the afternoon hours with your Sailor after graduation and then she will report back. Also - there is a limit of 4 guaranteed seats for graduation. I was told that extra people can wait at the Visitor Center and if there is space, they will be allowed in. Your daughter will have to name the 4 people that will be given seats.

Good luck!

Cheryl J

Hi Cheryl,

I am glad to have found some other Moms that have other Marines as well.. It is very difficult I do agree to have

them gone. I was hoping this time around it would be easier.. lol.. But im guessing not. We do have a pretty big

family, so the graduation thing has me a bit concerned. We have 5 little kids and it says kids 12 and under do not

need to be on the list, so I am wondering if they will have a automatic seat..

Thank You for the welcome Vickie 1229. I know that they only get 4 people to put on the list.. But I noticed that it said kids 12 and under do not need to be on that list.. Is that true?
