Hey guys,

I am starting to design the USS Reuben James Ship-2 challenge coin.

I need some current info on the 900's division so I can bring it all together. Are the 900's still considered/called triple threat? ..drill with rifle..flag carriers....band?     What is some other info I should know about the 900 division.  What is something that a sailor can link the 900 division to RTC Great Lakes?

Do you have any cool pictures or graphics for the various 900 sections (band, flags, drill)?  I need to come up with some designs that would look cool.

The other coins were easy since it deals strictly with boot camp.  The 900's division are a little different and I want to get the coin correct for the sailors...

Thanks again,

Craig

Craig, where can I get the ship 9 coin that just came out?

Shelly

Shelly,

Just go to Ebay and type "JFK" and "Ship 9", you will find it....

a company called "PIRGifts" is selling them.

I am actually trying to do the Reuben James Ship 2 now....

Here is the info on the ones I have already done:

USS Triton Ship-12   =  Released June 15

USS John F. Kennedy Ship-9 =  Release July 15

USS Chicago Ship-7  = Proposed release August 5th

USS Kearsarge Ship 11 = Proposed release August 15th

USS Reuben James Ship 2 = Proposed release August 30th.  (this is what I'm working on now)

From the research I have found the Triple Threat is the Band, Choir, and Drill team. The Flag corp is thrown in with them as well for most PIR Groups but they do occasionally have a separate division for the flag corp. I'm not sure how often it is separate. I know when my daughter had PIR two years ago today there were two performing divisions. The 935 was the flag corp and the 936 was the Triple Threat (Band, Choir, & Drill team) I do have lots and lots of pretty good pictures taken at PIR so let me know if you would like me to send some to you. Maybe you could divide the coin into 3 triangles and use a Bang Pic in one sections, Choir in another section, and Drill team in another section, you could include the flag corp as a background behind the band or choir. Just an idea lol. Here are a couple of the pics I took. And I am sure my Sailor would be happy to talk to you about being a part of the triple threat if you like. She was in the Choir.

I have lots of other pics on a disc and I could email them to me if you let me know what you are looking for.

Lala, are you saying the flags are not part of the triple threat?  Why don't they consider flags part of that?  Just trying to understand....

btw:  I like those pictures.  Do you have a band photo and flag photo.  That way i have all four....

Craig, I am just not completely sure. I am going to ask my Sailor to clarify that. I know that sometimes the flag copr is a different division but not always but even when they are they are still a 900/performing division. I would put all four on there. And I do have some other pics. I will find my CD and load them asap. My laptop is new so I don't have them all on here. I will let you know what I learn about the Triple Threat.

Okay Craig, I spoke to my Sailor. The performing divisions are made up of the band, choir, drill team, flag corp and those who work behind the scenes like body snatchers, side boys, door holders greeters etc. The Triple Threat it the Band, Choir and Drill Team. The performing divisions rotate every three weeks PIR groups. So one group will be the flag corp, the next group will be the triple threat, and the next group will be those working behind the scenes. That is why most of them perform at 3 PIR's including their own. That is also why you sometimes see two performing divisions in one PIR group when they have skipped a week with no PIR. I hope this make sense. Personally I would make the coin with 4 triangles if possible. One section for band, one for choir, one for drill team, and one for flags. Either that or do a Triple Threat coin nad a different coin for the Flag and workers, maybe a pic with the side boys. I will look for some pics later today. I have to get some work done first :-)

Lala - I just found the facebook page. I can get some picture there.  But...  is you daughter one of the choir sailors above? If so, I'll make sure that get incorporated into the coin (if possible), just for some fun for her.

Do tell....

Yes Craig she is. She is the one standing next to the guy on the front row.  I told her you were designing these coins and that you may use the pic with her in it and she is so excited. I cannot even begin to tell you how much this means to me if you are able to do that. I am beyond excited :-D Please keep me informed and let me know how it is going. I will definitely want to get a couple of those coins and probably more. I will never forget the experience of hearing her voice singing for all those people at PIR. It seemed that a lot of the others were a little scared of the microphone lol but they sounded like angels and recognizing her voice still gives me goosebumps every time I watch the video. Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

Here is another pic of them while they were waiting to sing. I think you may be able to see them better in this one if that helps at all lol

It will be tiny, and you won't be able to see her.  But you should recognize the picture as a whole....  You'll know where that picture came from.  Hopefully the engraver can get it.....

I air brushed the mic out of the picture....
