I keep seeing running lists of dates that kids are leaving and I really wanted to connect with other people whose kids are leaving at the same time my son is.  So, if you have a child leaving either August 1st or 2nd, post here and let's keep each other up todate on progress.

Thanks,

Carol

I wasn't aware of buying phone cards? I guess if they don't have one, they just call collect?

They can purchase calling cards up there.    When they arrive, or sometime after that, they are given a pre-paid debit card that will have a certain amount on it for things they will need.   As the payperiods progress they can have their pay put on that card (which is attached to the Federal bank).    Or you can send him one in your first letter.    I had forgotten to get my daughter a card in case she needed it and I forgot about the stamps.   So my daughter will be getting that in one of the first letters I send her.    They won't have much time at all to call unless there are problems.   It is good if they don't call much.  :)   hope that helps.

I visited callsforrecruits.org and they gave me 10 free phone cards immediately by email.  The recruit just calls the access # and enters the phone card code # from the email.  They are one time use, but are good for 20 minutes calling time each.  All they ask is that the recruit keep 6 for themselves and give 3 to another recruit.

From what I hear, they will barely get a chance to use the phone, so I doubt my son will even be able to use all 6.

My son took his oath and left from Phoenix yesterday.  I got my call at 11:36PM last night that he made it.  I miss him sooo much! I even wore one of his shirts to work today. lol

My son is leaving for great lakes August 1st

My son is also leaving August 1st he will be coming from Fl.

My son's going away party is today, I hope the weather holds so we can take advantage of the outdoor spaces at the house. And most of all I am looking forward to watching my son interact with a few friends and family before he leaves.
What is totally weird is that normally I am a planner and I've planned everything out when it comes to these things, but recently I've just been winging it. That usually stresses me out, but right now I can't bring myself to mind that I didn't prep ahead of time. I even "cheated" on a lot of the cooking because I want it to be easy and stress free for everyone. I need to frost the cupcakes still, but part of me wants to leave it and make it a decorate your own cupcake station...

Hello JonsMama and group members!

My son is leaving for bootcamp Aug 1st from Phoenix, AZ! Exactly 1 week from today! Crazy.  We are having a little going away party this saturday.  Just a casual BBQ.  We took our final family vacation together earlier this month and cherished spending some quality time with him

I'm so glad my friend told me about this site to get all your support! Good luck everyone!

Good luck to your son leaving Aug 1. My son is leaving on Aug 2nd from Phx also.

Thinking about you today!! Yesterday was tough for me. I kept my phone by my side all day and night waiting for his first call.

My Son, Brandon is leaving for GL on 8/1/12- How are you holding up, Carol?
