Hey guys,
I am starting to design the USS Reuben James Ship-2 challenge coin.
I need some current info on the 900's division so I can bring it all together. Are the 900's still considered/called triple threat? ..drill with rifle..flag carriers....band? What is some other info I should know about the 900 division. What is something that a sailor can link the 900 division to RTC Great Lakes?
Do you have any cool pictures or graphics for the various 900 sections (band, flags, drill)? I need to come up with some designs that would look cool.
The other coins were easy since it deals strictly with boot camp. The 900's division are a little different and I want to get the coin correct for the sailors...
Thanks again,
Craig

My son is part of that division. Thanks so much for doing this. I can't wait to see the coins.
Come on veteran moms.... I need some inputs.....
I'll track some down Craig. LaLa has a beautiful pic of her daughter singing in the Choir. I know they carry the Flags for the intro of PIR. Door handlers, Drums, stand watch over the refreshments for the VIP M & G for the Honor Grads and the Families (I think they prep the food too.) lemonelephant knows a lot about the three different rotations. Each TG has a "different" 900 Division from what I am getting out of it.
Craig,
Check out this link for some pictures. There might be some good information for you there too. https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand
Btw - I am so thrilled to know you are working on the Ship 02 Challenge Coin!!! That is awesome!
Thanks for the info... I will be checking it out.
I know the history about the different ships, but I need to get the sailors into the picture too... I've got to give them something they can connect too....

There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though.
I believe that Division 939 is the Sticks.
Soooo....I am thinking that we call them "performing" "performance" and they are 900's.
Thanks...
I think I'll use 'United State Navy" just to be safe....
This is funny.. I was just looking around last nigh for the USS Reuben James Ship-2 challenge coin. any luck yet?? someone gave me this link.. i will help and look also for pics
I'm having an extremely hard time with this coin. The reason is I have zero idea about band, choir, drill, and flags.
The second problem is the area is so small that I can't get pictures inside the coin because I have other things I need to do with it. So, what I'm looking for now is, is there symbols that represents Band, Choir, Drill, and Flags? So far I've found these, but I haven't a clue if they mean anything about music. I'm thinking when I was in highschool, the people that "Lettered" had little symbols for with they lettered in. An example is a little gold football if you lettered in football. Or a wrestler if you lettered in wrestling.
So if anyone knows what the symbol are, please post them. I'm thinking the little "S" symbol (the thing on the left) would be good for band.
