My son, Dakota is in Ship9 DIV 273.  We got an actual letter from him last Thursday, 7/19 that said his swim test was that week in addition to fire training/ammunition training was the week after (7/16-20). His letter was short and sweet of course with no additional info about ship mates.  Not a surprise, since he's a man of few words.  Surprisingly, he seemed in really high spirits & excited to be there still.  I thought he would be a bit exhausted sounding, but he was very upbeat.  He said it was the best decision he's ever made & he loves it!  Wow, I'm astonished that my 18 year old son is so sure & set on life.  Proud mommy here in Georgia.  Hope to meet ya'll in Chicago soon.

So I have been so anxiously awaiting my letter that I forget something.  I told my son in my first letter that if he had to decide between me or much needed sleep to get the sleep.  That we knew he would be dreaming about home.  How I could kick myself now.  Oh how I would appreciate a letter.  Someone at the AZ moms luncheon said she mailed her son a sort of "fill in the blank" or "circle the correct answer" form.  She sent it with a self addressed stamped envelope to her son and guess what??? She got it back and in it all of her questions were answered.  Great idea.  I think I will try that.  Then he can answer in about 5 minutes and get to sleep.  Yet another good idea from the N4Ms luncheon!  You ladies are great!  All of you ladies on this site are great.  Thanks for being there.

I send my son a Q&A circle or fill in the blank every week - all of them have come back to me ! I enclose a self addressed stamped envelope and he uses them ! though in the last Q& A I asked him if these were helpful or annoying - he said they are ok - but he would rather get letters to hear about whats going on back home - I write him everyday ! I print off funny news stories, sports articles , cartoons - I send about 4 letters a day. You could send your son another letter saying - can you please write home ! Just a two sentence letter .

Got my letters today.  Yeah!  He sounds good and seems to be doing well.  I posted more details on the PIR 8-31 page.  So excited ladies and if you haven't gotten one , they are on the way.  He wrote me first on the 19th and then on the 22nd which now that I think about it does not make sense.  He said he could write everyday but Sunday.  Maybe the lack of sleep is affectin hiim a little.  Ha.  Anyways, he said he only got in trouble once for not having a shirt on and adds old habits die hard.  I miss him more now.  Your letters are on the way ladies.

My son Czrl is in Ship9 Div 273.. He has only been here in the US for 1 and a half year and decided to join the navy because he was inspired by his step brother who is now an E4 after 2 years of joining the navy He is stationed in San Diego..

I already received 4 letters from my son Czarl and 2-10 mins call for shining his boots really good. That was really something!!

He sounds like he is in a very good spirit and said to not worry about him. I was happy to found this site and I am learning a lot of good things about the bootcamp.. I have been reading your messages and it was only now that I decided to say something.. Lol! Thank you guys and hoping to meet you on our SR's graduation day!

Hi Ladies! We got our second letter today!! My son sounded good, said bootcamp is getting easier, and that div 273 will be carrying the flags at graduation!!! So exciting!!! I have been so worried about him but he sounded positive so i feel relieved!! Cant wait to see and meet you other moms and wives at graduation!! maybe we should all wear red beads or something??? So glad to hear you are all getting letters too!!!! Go Ship 09 Div 273 and 274!!!!!!!!!!!!

So glad to hear from everyone. It's great to get all this extra info on what's happening with everyone in Ship 09 div 273. My son Matt is talking about doing reclassification. Anyone else have a son that is talking about doing that?

Hi Joyellen,

Not sure if it would be called a reclassification, but my son has to pick another job.  His contract was cancelled and they told him he would be told what he qualifies for and he would need to choose.  Is that what is going on w/ your son?  My son has a vision issue that they were aware of but apparently disqualified him from his original assignment.  We feel bad that he has to make all these decisions again when he thought he was done, but life throws curves at us all the time, so he will need to figure it out.

He was hoping to get a different job that would allow him to go active instead of reserves.  When he had originally signed on he had hoped to go active, but the job he got didn't have anything active available.  He later said he wished he would have asked about another job to see if there was something else that he could do that had something available for active duty.  He told me in a later letter he is unable to do it at this time unless something else doesn't go through for his current job.  I guess I just need to find out more about reserves. He seems to be so excited about being in the Navy though, despite the whole job thing.  He just wishes he was active.  Bummer about your son having to pick another job because of a vision issue. Hopefully he'll get something he'll enjoy.  I keep thinking they'll eventually get into something they truly enjoy.  I know I changed my major in college about 3 times and now I'm doing something entirely different. It's hard to say what you are going to like doing until you try something.

I know what you mean about the not knowing what you want to do...My son just wanted to be in the Navy, but the thought of doing certain things make him cringe, like sitting behind a desk.  I'm sure it will al work out for the best as w/ your son.  I told my son God closed 1 door to you but opened others, just pick 1 and go thru it.

I'm not familiar w/ going into the reserves.  Does that mean after basic he just waits or does he still go straight to 'A' school?

He goes to A school in Florida.  But what he's doing is technical, so I guess I just don't understand how they go to school, then come home for however long and what they learned is not forgotten.  I did recently join the Navy Mom for Reserves group. (I'm in so many now.)  One mom said her son enrolled in college when he got back from school and then 2 days before it started he got sent somewhere for the Navy and so had to cancel his college for the time being until he got back. I am just trusting that all will go well.  I know he was bummed about not getting active, so I tried to go and look at some of the positive things about his job and wrote about that in my last letter.  Not sure if that is going to annoy him or be good.  I loved what you said about God closing one door and opening another.  I'll definitely remind him of that in my next letter.

Hello moms and girlfriends/wives of Ship 9 Div 274. My son has been moved into this division from another one due to the PASS program and needing to get out of a bad situation within that division. He is much happier in 274! I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and hope to talk with you soon!
