My son reported for bootcamp on Wednesday, June 6th which by my calculations the last day of his 8th week is Tuesday, July 31.  His graduation is friday August 3.  We are a two day drive from Great Lakes which means we will need to leave on wednesday the 1st to get there in time.  I have heard all these stories about parents not finding out til the last minute that their child made it thru battle stations. I guess my question is does battlestations take place on the last day of the 8 weeks?  This is very stressful!  Thanks

Battle stations takes place on a different day for each division...you could find out 5 days before PIR...or the night before PIR that your loved one made it through Battle stations and will be going to PIR.

Thanks Angie. I guess there is no way to find out when his division is going to battlestations?

they can find out from the yeoman in their division when they are scheduled for battle stations and write home to you and tell you when they will participate

I don't think so. The whole thing is supposed to catch them unaware.

Yes, it can be stressful, and yes, some divisions don't get done until the last minute. All you can do is plan as if everything will go along without a hitch.

i went through it a couple months ago and your recruit can find out from their division yeoman (like the secretary) and then they can write home to you and tell you their scheduled day

Never heard that, but if you say so, I guess you should know.

Can someone please correct me if I an wrong, but I'm already freak'n out about making plans for graduation.

He leaves on Tuesday September 18, am I correct that his graduation would be Friday November 9th?

You will get a packet with a form letter in it within the first 2 weeks or so.  In it will be the date of your son's graduation if there are no delays due to injury or failure to pass a test, ect.  There is a website included that gives lots of info about lots of things as well like printing your car pass, ect.   My son just phoned me this morning to say he passed Battlestations and will graduate friday as scheduled which is this friday August 3.  As I write this its July 31!  We live in Louisiana and opted to drive as trying to get refundable airfare was very costly and we were not sure we could get the times and flights we needed.  Had I not heard from him this morning we were fully prepared to hit the road not knowing whether he had passed or not.   Its a 16 plus hour drive  for us and we knew there was a possiblity we would be turning around.  It's kinda how it goes. I wish you luck!  They have alot of money invested in the recruits, about $20,000 each so they want them to succeed.  I worried alot and it all worked out!

There's no point in freaking out.

You can make your hotel reservations as they can always be cancelled, but hold off on the airlines unless you want to pay extra for the fully refundable ones. As pointed out, you'll get a letter with more information, but to be honest, there are many things that can alter plans that you can't account for. Pretty much all you can do is wait for info, make your plans and hope everything goes according to plans.

BTW, if that's your last name in your alias, you may want to change it.
