8/7 DEP date - Anybody else have a recruit leaving for BC that week?

My son heads to BC on 8/7.  I've no doubt he'll be just fine; but, you guessed it.....I'm still holding back the tears!  Anyone else leaving that week?  If so, from where?

Best I can tell, nervous is natural.  It's going to be a rough weekend knowing this will be the last he'll be home in a long time.  I hope you have great plans with your family and enjoy every minute up to the 7th.  Do you have a first name for your NC recruit that I can share with my WA recruit?  Hopefully they will connect at BC.

Our son leaves from Shreveport, LA the same day.  We are having is Anchors Away party Sunday for friends and family.  Chip will be a SW and wants to go into the UCT, Underwater Construction Team.  Going to be a sad weekend for us all but they will be fine.

My son leaves the same day - flying out of Memphis, TN. I am so thankful for this site. I know I will survive, but right now I'm wondering how. I'm glad to have y'all celebrating & suffering with me lol!

My Son left on the 1st...and I am STILL fighting to keep my composure...

Just a few tips that I learned....

You can go to his final swear in the morning he leaves, and check with your airport, they will usually issue you a fake boarding pass so you can go to the airport with him until he leaves.... those final hours as he waiting for his plane were so precious to us....but walking away as he boarded was hell..... UGH....

It's ok to tell your friends and family to STOP telling you "He's doing a good thing, He'll be fine, It' only 8 weeks"..... yes, we know he is doing a good thing, he's doing a GREAT thing..and we know he will be fine... He's going to emerge from Boot Camp and strong, young man..... and no, it isn't ONLY 8 weeks.... Your baby just left the nest, and he isn't coming home for a long time, if he does at all. He is starting a new chapter in his life and we aren't given a transition time...they are just up and gone...... People who haven't sent their kids off to BC don't understand that.... and it's making me completely insane right now...LOL...it's ok for you to be selfish with your emotions when he leaves...  Just remember that he is probably missing you as much as you are missing him.......

and a little hint- we were told there is no contact between recruits if they aren't in the same divisions...

it will get them in a lot of trouble....My sons very good friend is leaving tomorrow, and they said absolutely NO letter writing or communication while in BC.... so be careful. Check with your recruiter before sharing information.

good luck and God Bless!

Thanks for the great advice.  My son opted to not have us meet him at the airport, which was just as well since he was only there for 1 1/2 hrs before boarding his plane.  Fortunately, his recruiter told him it was ok to take his cell so he could use it to make his scripted call home so we were able to text right up to his boarding time.  The hardest part then became his last message "Bye, see you guys".  Time for mom to really break down!!

You hit it on the nose with the BC comments.  My first born, for whom we struggled to get in to this world, has not only left for BC but has left the nest and won't be back for a long time, and then only in brief spurts to visit.....no transition time.....yes, that's a big 'ouch' for mom, dad, and siblings!!

I'm really interested in your last comment regarding communication between divisions.  Was hoping it didn't matter and all of our SR's could connect to create a bigger 'family'.  Hmmm, interesting!  What about between the various branches of the service.  My son also had his best friend leave the day before he did but the friend is in a different branch of the military.

God Bless you and yours too!!

Do you have a list of what they CAN take with them to BC?

My son is leaving from VA tomorrow (8/6). This is my second son I've sent off to the Navy so I'm doing better than last time, but it's still hard.

Yes, my son left for BC 8/6/12 from Dallas. Waiting for address so I can write him.

Hi Taylor. My son also left from Dallas 8/6. I have received his box but not the formal navy letter yet. Have you? Thanks. Angie

Hi SEAttLeMom

My son left today also.  The hardest thing I have ever had to do is watching him to and knowing it will be awhile before I hear his voice again.

Mine left today. I'm tracking his flight to Chicago as I type. Makes me feel as I'm with him a little longer.

:)  I did the exact same thing so I could guestimate when we'd get his call.  It helped ease the sadness his little siblings were going through.  His call came in right when expected.  Brief as it was, we were all there, put him on speaker phone, and were able to shout out our final "I love you's" before disconnecting.

...wonder how they are all doing today......
