Hello ladies!

Well my boyfriend and I are both 21, both soon to be 22 in a couple weeks. (weird, I know)  He is currently in A school in Virginia Beach, VA, and has been there since July 14th or so. We had quite the history before he went for bootcamp, were good friends in college. Basically the day before he left, he came and visited me, gave me a sterling silver necklace they gave him when they swore him in, got my address and told me he was going to write.
Hands down the most romantic thing to happen to me in my life.

He wrote. was very careful until the last letter to leave the "L-bomb" out of it. I didn't get to go to his graduation. He's dealt with some heartbreak and is good at building up walls. I hadn't met his family yet and it didn't seem like it would be fair to make that day about me rather than him. Plus Great Lakes is 6 hours away from me and he only had about 8 hours of Liberty before they shipped him out to VA. Disheartening, I'm not going to lie.

I'm ranting a bit. Bear with me. I'd love to hear your stories as well. :)

Well now he's at A school. We now say the L-word frequently. But have been having some communication issues. We've skyped a couple times. Thank you Jesus for skype. Way better than a phone call! In the past, he's been one of those edgy boys. The musician type. Who don't say the L-bomb before sex. We had one kiss, in may. He's freaked out because this is definitely different than the way he's done things in the past. Plus he's now a responsible sailor who has sworn off booze and cigs. for me. which also blows my mind. But anyways. I'm freaked out because I've never done this long distance thing before. and certainly not with a military man. It's overwhelming because there's certain ways you go about this sort of thing and all over the internet is the pressure to get married and get serious and pick up and move with him. Someone once asked me, "so Norfolk or San Diego?" I was confused. He promised me I could live where ever I wanted, he was going to build us a house on the shoreline with a wraparound porch and I could be a school nurse there. I was thinking the northshore in Duluth sounded nice.

We haven't had sex. I'd rather not strip down on skype. Although he asked me to when we were on. I think thats best left for in person. But wait six months? Not sure if I/we/he can.

I just mailed him a bday gift. It was more like a care package. I like to theme presents. His was "a taste of the midwest" Caribou coffee, a green bay packer travel mug, a regular mug, a copy of my favorite midwestern book, and a little jar of farm fresh honey my grandfather pulled off the hives about a week and a half ago. Although I realize I'm rather clueless as to what to send him. I feel like I could've sent that to my dad. Not sure what to send to my navy boyfriend. Plus we had a small tiff this last week. Care package ideas, ladies?  It was also last minute because I didnt think we were going to do the bday thing. I dont like to. I don't think I pick out presents well. But he said he was sending me something in a week. (Pleaseeee be jewelry! Haha!)  So I felt a little obligated.

What can I expect while he's at A school? He told me he's going for C school after, too. Which is just fine because it buys me time to finish up my bachelors degree.

Any advice would be great.

I'm thinking this reads more like a blog post. Hmm.

Let me know if I can help you?

Hey char, my sailor is also in C school in VA, is yours at Norfolk or Dam Neck?

He is not in C school yet. Will be in 5 months though! Right now its A school at Virginia Beach. What can you say about C school?

If its right on VA beach and not Norfolk, he's most likely in Dam Neck. Do you know what if his rate is IS?

My sailor went to A school in the same place as his C school, in Dam Neck, C school is much harder school wise but they no longer have a curfew during the week or weekend, except on duty days.

Sounds like a good care package to me, well thought out.  Little comforts mean a lot.  Basic stuff like a pack of good socks can be a real pick me up because it shows you're thinking of their care and comfort.

Does he have a good watch?  They don't need much and they can buy things for themselves now.  He won't want a bunch of Navy knickknacks.  A nice professional portrait in a small frame may be appropriate.

Yeah- I probably need to send him a picture of me. Im just not very photogenic. haha.

I don't know how to shop for mens watches. Now would probably be a good time to learn.

I got this brilliant idea earlier- some university apparel from my school! :D I'm kindof excited about that one. Thanks for the help!

If you decide to get a watch for him, be sure it is one he can wear in uniform.  We can look up the regulations if you need to know.

i could be wrong, my memory isn't the best. my fiance was watch shopping earlier i believe the watch must be all black (i.e. nothing flashy/ no "bling" as the kids put it) and i know she was looking mostly at digital so that she could set it to military time she didn't want to have to do the math,  also being a guy i may have some more insight if you include some more info about him as a person. i'm in va currently (working on moving here to be closer to my fiance). anyway any help i can give i'm here for you.

6.  JEWELRY.  Conservative jewelry is authorized for all personnel and shall be in good taste while in uniform.  Eccentricities or faddishness are not permitted.  Jewelry shall not present a safety or FOD (Foreign Object Damage) hazard.  Jewelry shall be worn within the following guidelines:

e.  Wristwatch/Bracelets.  While
in uniform, only one of each may be worn.  Ankle bracelets are not
authorized while in uniform.

Above are the reg's for watches...there is nothing that requires it to be all black.
