For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

So, August moms~ How are you doing?
My son leaves for GL on 8/8 and I am excited, proud, nervous, a bit sad and much more! Lots of emotions! He has been a DEPper since early November, so I should be ready... but not really!
He is in for 6 yrs because he is going to be a nuke. He says he wants to make a career of the Navy. Time wll tell.
I have 4 kids... a married son (lives close by), a daughter 22 (in college and moving out next month ~finally), my DEP son- 18, and my baby~ almost 15 yr old son.
With my daughter and my Navy boy leaving soon I am going to have a near empty nest, after YEARS of having a full, noisy house. I also hate autumn, so I am thinking I need to be VERY busy when that time comes. Life is about changes. I know that, but it sure is bittersweet to let your babies grow up!
So, how are you gals doing?

Agreed. I was doing pretty ok for a while and as it gets closer it's getting a little tougher. Filled with pride, but knowing I will be missing him tons is getting to me. I read here that it gets easier and in my heart I know this is true. Serving in the Navy will be a great life experience, and he will have a common bond to share with his fellow Sailors i hope to be even more tight than that of college mates. I think the anticipation has been the worst part so far. Do you find that too?

I agree the anticipation of the whole thing is tough... I looked at him the other day and was like can you just leave already, I dont wont to rush him out the door but its like every day we are one day closer to him leaving and it feels worse than the thought of him being gone...

My daughter leaves August 28th. I felt like I could handle this transition on my own; however, I am so thankful for the support provided through Navy for Moms. It's encouraging to know that we are not alone and have the wisdom and experience of so many wonderful people. I am extremely proud of my daughter and look forward to all the great things to come!

I feel the same way about this site. My daughter was scheduled to leave the 20th of August and just found out they had to push her date back to August 29, maybe they will be in the same unit.

Hello All!
It's my first time to post about my son. He leaves on August 7 which happens to be two weeks exactly from today. I have to say it's a little quiet around my house. He's busy with the girlfriend and the PS3. We don't really talk a lot because I believe he is scared to death and I'm on an emotional roller coaster of knowing it is the right thing for him and dreading sending him off into the real world. Quite frankly, I'm still checking the mailbox daily looking for the instruction book that should have come with him when I delivered him!!!!!! One thing for sure, this parenting thing is certainly not for cowards. Thanks to all of you moms who have endured this and have let me know that I will survive. I know PIR is just a short time away and I will get to see the sailor that will have grown from a boy to a man.

Mine leaves the same day. We have been trying to o a lot of fun things together, but last night it hit me like a ton of bricks that in two days he will be at meps ready to fly )for the first time) and start the next chapter of his life.
That goes for me too. No more school stuff, PTA, athletic events, etc...
Need a box of puffs for when we say goodbye at the airport..well, after he turns to go. I want h I'm to see me smile and be proud, he always told me he admired my strength, got keep that up. Crying is for the two hour drive home from Louisvile -

On my way to Phx MEPS to see my son take his oath and then off to the airport. He will arrive in GL later on tonight. Praying I can hold up through this day :)

My son is leaving in 12 days also, went with him to his last DEP meeting yesterday. Time is just flying by. We are so proud but at the same time will miss him greatly...Trying to make the most of the time we have left with him...Hugs from VA

Awh, thank you so much for the kind words. He's been gone 2 days now and we did get our 15 sec call the night he arrived. Sounded very tired and the connection was horrible so didn't hear everything. I am very sad but I am looking forward to seeing him at PIR. That is what is keeping me going! My prayers go out to you also when your SR leaves. Getting close! Chin up!

Hi Dale and everyone...
My son leaves August 13th. He is also going to be a nuke. He has been a DEPper since December.
He is my oldest and has never been away from home except for his senior class trip in May.
I have three younger children...all girls (16, 12 and 12). The twins will be 13 in a couple months.
I am discovering right now how little I know about his leaving. he is such a laid back kid, but I get no information from him. His last DEP meeting is today.
It just started to really hit me today.Jen
