I'm so frustratrd! After not getting the"I made it here" call from my son upon arrival at GL last Thursday, I decided to call the recruiter's office on Friday to see if they could at least confirm that he made it ok. I called twice and only got a recorded message that they were out of the office. So while out running errands this morning, I thought I would stop in and maybe I could get his address. The sign on the door says M-F 9 am - 6 pm. 9:15, no one there and closed sign hanging in the window. Go back by this afternoon and the office is still dark, doors locked, sign says closed. So I call a buddy of my son's who isn't shipping out until December and he tells me that the office is closed ALL WEEK because they are gone for training! Are ya kidding me?!? I'm one really unhappy momma right now! Fuming!!!

I'm really sorry Stephanie. I can understand. I never got the "I made it" call either. It feels a little like taking a punch to the gut, but we must trust that our boys are in good hands. When did your son leave for BC? I ask because there was one mom I became friends with here that got the "I made it" call several days later. Have you gotten your box yet? Hang in there mama bear. It does get better.

He left last Thursday August 2nd, so haven't gotten the box yet.

Hi Stephanie,

Do you have a FaceBook page? You can "Like" Naval Service Training Command This is another resource for you and also another wonderful support group. They will try and answer as many question as possible for you.

I know how hard this is. My son left for boot Camp right before X-Mass in 2011. Now he is deployed on the Navy's longest deployment ever. If I can give you the greatest advise someone once gave me that may sound strange right now, but trust me when I say it helps... Brag as often as you can. -Even if it's to complete strangers. I still talk to people I don’t know! I buy T-shirts that say Proud Navy Mom. I know you're frustrated, but know that the Navy is a good place and your son is in good hands. My son emerged a leader and at 20 years old he is truly a fine young Sailor. It's the hardest thing as mothers we may ever go thru, letting our children serve our country, but when they raise those doors at graduation you'll get chills and you'll remember this email when I tell you;  you will be beaming with PRIDE! My son carried his division flag and we were so honored just to be there.

.

Thanks! Yes, this is the most awful thing I think I've had to do as a parent, yet I am so very proud of him that he made the decision to join! I never imagined there would be so many things I would worry about, from hoping he's found FFD by medical to worrying about him passing his PT (because he didn't prepare before leaving!) after all this worrying and nearly making myself sick over it all, he may not get through. I've really got to stop worrying about things that aren't in my control at this point. It's up to him now. I did call the Public Affairs number this morning to at least confirm his arrival. They confirmed he is there, but wouldn't give me the ship/div info. Oh well. The form letter should be coming soon. :-)

Hi Srephanie,

All these Navy Moms are here for you. The box will come sooner then you think; It took me 2 weeks to open the box. I didn't want to cry over and over. It was then I new it was real. And yes I cried again.

Keep an eye on the FB site. Not sure what they have going on these days, but every week they had one day where they played a trivia game. 1st person that got the answer correct got a picture of her Div! It was like gold.... On X-Mass eve I was blessed with a Div photo of my son.

As soon as you get an address start writting and sending cards. They love it and they will write back! When you see your son again he'll be in the best shape of his life!

Thanks for the FB link. I thought that I had probably "liked" that page already, but I hadn't so I just did that. How nice to have a Div photo! I'll definitately try to participate in the contests!! Guess I should start to study Navy info now, huh? LOL!!

LOL haha there is so much to learn. I think it's never ending.  I'm still learning!
