THE FORM LETTER:

Within a week after your recruit arrives at Great Lakes, you'll get THE BOX containing his old cloths and other personal items (look for his cell phone in his shoes). Next, you'll get the form letter with four important items.

  1. Your recruit's SHIP # and DIVISION # (Ships which are their barracks are also named, like USS Triton, USS Reuben James. Don't confuse these with the real life actual Navy vessels in service)
Just below that is his address.  USE THIS ADDRESS FOR YOUR LETTERS.
  2. Further down, you'll find his graduation date. This is his PIR (Pass In Review) date.
  3. Next, you'll see the password needed to download the parking pass
  4. Finally, you'll see the four names your recruit has listed official as his guests. (4 per recruit)

If you are lucky, you'll find a very brief note from your recruit. There is not much room to write, so don't be disappointed.

If you have received your form letter, find your PIR date and join one of the established groups listed below. Keep this letter in a safe place and/or scan and save on your hard disk as a backup.

Just click on the underlined links below to go to the groups for the PIR dates (normally a Friday).  When the page opens up, join the group by click +JOIN on upper right. Good luck and thank you to all Sailor Recruits and their families.

We live in central Missouri.

My son is on Ship 12 Div 285, he called today.  It was great to hear his voice, and hear about what he's been doing but made me feel sad - like the day he left all over again! Can't wait to see him 9/7!

so happy you got to talk to him

Not sure if we have chatted yet, but both of my sons left July 11th and are also in Div 285. We had a banner week here last week, with letters coming thurs, fri, and sat!!, and also phone calls from both boys on Thursday! Have u heard much from your son yet? Is he staying in GL for his a school or going somewhere else? I have one going to San Antonio and one to Pensacola.

Cheri

He is staying in GL. Still waiting on the call. He wrote his sister last week but I haven't received a second letter yet,I don't think he has gotten any of my letters yet . This is so tough I started forwarding the house phone to my cell when we all leave so if he does call we'll get it. We are staying at NavyGateway. How old are your boys? Mine graduated in June from high school I look forward to hearing from you    Lisa
