Leaving for Bootcamp August 1st or 2nd, 2012

I keep seeing running lists of dates that kids are leaving and I really wanted to connect with other people whose kids are leaving at the same time my son is.  So, if you have a child leaving either August 1st or 2nd, post here and let's keep each other up todate on progress.

I am still waiting for my son to arrive, He left from Phx today around 3pm so probably won't hear from him till much later. Your son must have had a short flight? Good luck to both of you.

Mine just called with the 15 second message.. I'm here expect a call in about 3 weeks.. Love you. I thought I might hear around 10 p pst... He arrived at ohare 6ish PST.
I feel a little relieved that it's finally time, we have been preparing ourselves mentally since November. My 7yo is heartbroken. She LOVES her big bro, so it has been hard to keep it together when her tiny precious heart aches.
He left with 2other SR's who were really great kids, and even humored my daughter at the airport. She is pretty silly and lightened the mood. Made me feel good to meet the other shippers knowing that he's not there alone, and he has opportunity to make great friends.

Mine called last night at about 2330. It was so much quicker than I thought it would be. And the way his voice sounded broke my heart he sounded so tired abd stressed. I also have a broken hearted sibling. He is 12 and they were best of friends, however I think it will be easier once they are able to write each other. I am proud of my son's decision and excited for his experiences that are to come. He shipped out with 8 other guys and they were all trying to reassure each other that things were going to be ok.

I am thankful that there is the chance to have a forum with other Navy Moms going through the same experience.

I am thankful too. None of my friends have kids in an age group to be leaving home yet, so it's hard for them to know how to react to what we're going through. My SR sounded nervous and excited. We will start writing today. I will be really glad to see him at PIR. 7to9 weeks sounds like a long time, but it will be done before we know it!

My 7 and 9 year old miss big brother too. Well the 9 year old does. The 7 year old discovered that he can now play on all of his big brothers saved games without getting fussed at :)

The call was definitely short. I am so glad I had read here what he would be saying because the connection was so horrible I couldn't understand anything. I would have been a wreck thinking about what I missed had it not been for here!

Now just waiting for the box and staying busy. Writing him letters has helped too though I can't mail them yet.

So, my son left last Wednesday, August 1st and I just got "the box" today.  My daughter called me from home saying "Are you expecting a package?" I couldn't wait to get home, so I had her open the box for me and narrate the contents over the phone.  No handwritten note from him :( I guess I'll have to wait until the first letter.

I did watch a youtube video about what happens at bootcamp and read a post about it as well so I have at least some idea whenever that question goes through my head "I wonder what he's doing right now..."  Watching the video helped.

I also told him that I'm putting myself through my own "self-inflicted" boot camp and working out 1 hour a day 6 days a week in his honor.  I might as well get in shape too!  So when I'm dreading the work out and wanting to quit I can say to myself, "I bet my son isn't quitting right now."  That's motivation for you!

Funny I am self inflicting boot camp too. My SR arrived eve of 8/2 hoping to see the box tomorrow. But I know it's 5 day transit, so it's unlikely unless they do a FedEx 3 day super saver,,, I am just anxiously awaiting the form letter/ address so he can hopefully start getting mail ASAP!

Hello,

My son Kyle left the house Aug 1 and left for Great Lakes on the Aug 2...he left from Detroit...He called his Dad on that Thurs....I had a hard few days, but I am starting to feel a little better...still miss him tons, but I know he is doing what he has always wanted and he was ready...he was a little indifferent for the last 3 days before he left...so I just let him be...it was hard, but that is how Kyle is.....hoping to hear from him soon....I need to call tomorrow to see if I can get his address...I have been writing him a letter each day and have them numbered for him...everyone take care and hope to chat soon with most of you..

Hi all, my son left Aug 1, and I got my kid in a box today... kind of hard to handle even though this is my second time around.   So does anyone have a PIR date yet?

My son left 8/2. Just now finding this group. How many got boxes today? So far, nothing here but he may have had it sent to his dad's house.

I got "THE BOX" today also full of dirty clothes and shoes. im not sure about the contacts solution my son wears glasses. Estimate the graduation at the end of september or first of october. Can wait to see him.
