Woot woot!  We received our first official letter from our SR today...  He says he is doing good and has adjusted well to his new life at boot camp.  He said it wasn't as bad as he expected and that he was actually "enjoying it"...  LOL    He really praised his RDC's and said that they were really strict but that they would help them in anyway possible.  He said he thought the RDC's at Ship 13 Division 309 (in his opinion) were the best on the base!!! Thank God for answered prayers.  He said so far he has not been chewed out!!!!!  LOL   This momma is so happy and can now breathe and eat!!!!!!   He also said that he was going to church with a couple of his friends.  Please post if you have received letters... I would love to know if any of your kids are friends with him......  Still checking up on him even in boot camp!!!! LOL

That's great news to hear! My son is ship 13 Division 313. After seeing your son's comment about his RDC's being the best, I was so hoping my son was in the same division! LOL!! My son will probably NEED some help! He didn't really prepare physically for BC except in his bedroom behind closed doors, and well.... Can't really get much running in like that. He said he ran in place. HAHA!! He only played one season of league football in middle school, and never played sports again. Oh my goodness, this will be such a challenge for him! I hope he's doing well. I'm still waiting/hoping for the first "real" letter home, but not expecting one and not sure he'll even call if he gets the chance. He's not one to really talk on the phone either. But I'm so proud of him for making the decision to join the Navy and I just hope everything goes well for him there. I've already seen some who have gotten an unexpected bad news call, and I'm so fearful! I'm glad your son is enjoying it and I hope and pray mine is too!  Thanks for sharing your story. ~Stephanie

Stephanie you are to funny....Kyle was in his room a lot also and he was not prepared physically either...our boys will be fine......no news is good news also that is what I keep telling myself.......

talk later,

Jo

UGH!! LOL!! I think that has become my mantra! "No news is good news!"   "No news is good news!"   "No news is good news!"  :-)  I would just love to hear in his own words or see in his own writing what he's experiencing. Being a teacher, I'm so glad I started back to work last Thursday. I can at least keep my mind off of him (sort of) during the work day now.

I have been trying to move on if you will also....I am a loss prevention detective for Meijer and we are always busy...not sure what people are thinking when they have a job and then do something like steal from the company they work for...it happens a lot and it is nuts...... What grade do you teach???

Jo

I'm doing better now, too. At least I'm not crying anymore. It is hard not to think of them though.

I'm a I taught 7th - 9th grade English for 6 years, then got my certification in Library Media and am now a Library Media Specialist (Librarian), grades 9th - 12th. We will have over 2500 students in our school this year.

Wow that is a lot of students....good luck with that...lol

So glad you received a letter.  i cannot wait to get one!  My son is Ship 13 div 311

Shelbysmom, omg good for you so so exciting!  I was jumping for joy just reading your post.  Letting everyone know what he said helps me tremendously.  My son is Ship 13 Div 309 also and although i have not received a letter but i did get a call from him last Sunday, Aug 12th around 4 pm.  If i have repeated this to you please forgive still trying to find my way around this website and who i have and havent talk too.  He had won a competition and therefore earned a 10 minute phone call.  He also sounded very positive, he did say a bit harder than he thought just a bit opposite of what your son said but thats ok...knowing that they are in the same ship/div is a good thing and to both get positive feedback means all is well for now.  We must stay in touch on here.  I actually think i asked my son if he knew a Shelby in his ship but that was through a letter not on the phone and to date i have not received any letters although he told me had sent me a card and was hoping to get something in the mail today but have not, but i will definitely live off the 10 minute phone conversation as long as i have too, well maybe lol  I am going to invite you to my friends list.  Not sure if i have asked but what area are you from, we are from big city SE Texas wont be hard to figure that out.  LOL

We are from Kentucky.  My son did not play any sports or do anything extracurricular in middle school or high school other than weight lifting and FFA.  However we really encourage and pushed him academically and physically since entering high school so we have never worried about his physical abilities during bc.  Before leaving he was running the mile and half in 10 mins and 15 seconds and doing 100 pushups and situps.  I was more concerned with him being from home.  As he grew up he stayed with my parents a lot but no one else.   This summer he spent a week at our church for camp but that is a total of 10 mins away and then I went to church with him one night.  I really thought he would be miserable and home sick.  However after reading his letter and hearing the excitment in his words I am now on cloud nine.

I had to share our good news in hopes that it would lift someone else up.  I know I was sick to my stomach with worry over "my boy".

Leisa, congratulations on getting to talk to your kiddo.  I long to hear my boy's voice and his laughter again.  It has been 14 days since I heard his voice and then he was under some pressure to talk to his dad and I.    Please feel free to add me, we are all in this BOAT/SHIP together!!!!!  Haha!!!!!

Our son is in Ship 13 Div 309 as well! We got our first letter today and were very happy!!!  I look forward to meeting some of you on the 28th! We should all wear something telling us we are from here so we know!!!!

Mommacita, just now really getting a chance to sit uninterrupted and look at everyone's post and am glad you have joined here and friended me....looks like Shelbysmom FIRST LETTER post is where i have seen everyone conversing and I am good with that so much cause i know right where to go each day i logon, if there is another place please let me know still trying to figure this website out.  We are from big city SE Texas...i dont mind telling anyone where we live but dont want to break any rules either.  What area are you from.  I know we are excited just to be able to chat about this big change in all our lives and also hoping we will meet a Mom that their son has met their own son.  I know that my son sleeps on top Rack lol and the young man on the bottom rack is from I think he said Southern California.  Anyway, please stay in touch.

where are you from not "what are you from"....lol  ooops
