Welcome to the discussion group for divisions 819 & 820. It only happens a few times a year when there are two special ops groups in one TG.

Please be very aware when posting about your SRs who are in one of these divisions. Although they are still in BC, what  they are doing may be slightly different from what the other division are doing. Make sure you read the OPSEC rules (everyone should).

Selaine, PIR in a nutshell. I love it.

Sunday was hard to say goodbye again. I was good until I saw another sailor saying goodbye to his family and as he walked away I saw him wipe his eyes and looked over at his father and he was doing the same. I lost it them.

We also flew into Milwaukee and it wasnt much further than Ohare.

Selaine is right about it being cold especially for the end of September. The day will probably warm up, but at 8:00 in the morning it was chilly. My son's PIR was October .If you drive, you will park in the garage and enter from the far side of your seating area. If you take the shuttle from the hotel it will let you out closer, but there is still a line outside to get in as they check your names and ID.

The 800 division is last to enter through the doors and will line up directly in front of you. Because they march so tightly they all look alike, but once they get into formation keep looking. I found my son and he found us.

Hi ladies, my Sailor PIR'd 7/6 with div 815. If I can help answer any questions I'm happy to help, share how it went & what we've learned so far.

When did yours get to make their first call and send their first letter?

After the initial "I'm here" call our real first call came about 3 weeks in & in the middle of the afternoon for me (west coast) we had about 20 min to talk. Letters started coming about 4 weeks in & thursdays seemed to be the best mail day, sometimes friday or saturday if he didnt finish in time for mail pick up. i wrote every other day.  Also dont worry if you didnt send calling cards I didnt either & then stressed but they are able to make calls even if you didnt send one.

My graduation experience was much like Selaine6 described. Once the letters start coming it begins to get easier just seeing their writing & hearing about their experiences.  Dont send food!! or cute or colored envelopes, musical cards etc, my son had someone recieve a 'care package' from home that resulted in lots of extra PT & embarrassment.

We got another call about 5 weeks in or so ,they had earned it so dont count that as being in stone.  The last call was after Battlestations-the "I'm a Sailor" call, my son was able to tell us where his placement would be in his divisiion when marching in so we knew to sit close to the floor as he would be on the outside closest to the seats.

We rented a car & asked my son where he would like to go he repied that he was just as much a tourist as us since he hadnt seen the outside of base since arriving & he arrived in the middle of the night.  I never thought much about that for him until he said that.

Also I would encourage you all to go to the meet & greets it's nice to have a face to go with some of the names you are & will continue to keep in contact with.

OH this helps so much.  Thank you.  I was worried about the phone cards.  I sent one but everyone said oh there would be a pin number with it.  They scaned the card but there wasn't a pin number it just said scratch off back and call the 1-800 number.  So I sent another yesterday with the proof it was purchased so he could call.  It was 2 weeks yesterday since he has been gone.  Talking about stress not being about to talk to him like I use to while he was in college.

One of his friends is sending him a pink envelope because he was in the military and knew what would happen so I'm sure my son is doing extra PT.

Looking forward to the first phone call and letter.

haha nurse. A little embarrassment never hurt anyone.

Anyone receive a phone call from 820 yet?  My son's girlfriend received a letter last week (none for mom....yet...) so I know he's doing fine; still, hearing about all the other DIV's parents having received phone calls in week 3.  Week 3 came and went.  What about DIV 820?  Anyone?

My son is in 820 - no phone call for us yet.  The waiting was ok until today - I really thought we would have one by now.  We did get a letter last week so I am thankful for that - would just be so nice to hear his voice!!!

Hi SEAttlLeMom! I"ve been lurking on the forum for a little while, and finally had some news worth joining in for. My boyfriend who is in DIV819 got his first phone call yesterday. (Unfortunately due to school starting, I missed it :'( but he got to have a short chat with his parents) I assume DIV820's schedule is relatively similar to that of 819, since people posted about letters the same day I received one. So hang in there!

wonderful!

Thanks NavyGF819.  My SR got a 15 min call on Tuesday.  Time was short so he spent it talking to his girlfriend.  Maybe the next calls will be to you and me!  :)
