OMG if you can believe it my phone rang I dug it out of my purse answered it and it hung up, I saw it was the area code for camp and then the message came up and while I was listening to that he must have called back and I missed it again. He sounded so sad and said "please mom answer the phone"! Ahaha I am in agony! I can not belive this and he says in the second message (while I was listening to the first one) he will not call back for 2 more weeks. Oh think I will just curl up now and wait for the horrible mother of the year award to be delivered to my door. Please someone tell me that if he wasnt doing well I would know right? if he was failing or whatever they would let him call more? I wrote him a note tonight and will mail tomorrow so he gets it and knows I was trying to answer his call. He called at 9:15 pm his time and I just figured by 7pm our time he wasnt going to call, I had my phone with me all weekend, glued to my side just thinking he could call. Oh man I will never sleep tonight! ahaha so very sad :(
Jenideer I missed my sons call two weeks ago - I cried for hours and felt like "the worst Mom in the world." It was tough and everyday that I can't hear his voice I am reminded of that. I keep my phone glued to me also including while I am teaching. I usually never have my phone out at school - trying to be a good example to my students that I do not have to be attached to a cell phone - they understand the change right now though. Last week was definitely the toughest for me since he left. Now I feel like I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Both of my sons left within three weeks of each other and I haven't seen my youngest in two weeks - but he calls every few days from GA Tech. He misses his brother too. Hearing other stories from other Moms helps because honestly if I hear one more person and their helpful platitudes about time flying and such I might just say something I'll regret! Fortunately one of my co-workers had a son go through BC last fall and she has been huge help through all of this.
Oh Jen - I'm so sorry! I know how you must feel. At least we all know this was NOT your idea to miss the call!!!!!! At least your son will get your note and of course he knows you didn't want to miss the call.
This too shall pass, in less than a month!
My son is on Ship 11 Div 302. He is 18 and from rural Tx. I can't wait to see him in Sept. I'm intimidated by the idea of flying in to Chicago. (I also am from that small town in TX!) Any advice? I know I need to buy tickets soon but I'm not sure where to go or what to plan. I know he is staying in Great Lakes for A school after PIR so I'm assuming we'll have time to visit that weekend. Any thoughts or suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.
mom from tx better get your tickets now. we are staying at the navy lodge motel about a mile from base. you can fly into ohare or i think its midway. try united or southwest. i google the airlines the flights were priced the same as priceline or kayak. hope this helps.
More letters today!! Its always a good day when we get letters. He sounds amazing and has made some really good friends. He is as excited to see us as we are to see him!! Go Navy!!
Patty -
I haven't heard from my son in 3 weeks now, so any news you can share would be great! Where are you from?
I wonder if our SRs know each other.
Susan
Finally receive that long awaited phone call today. He sounded great!
Finally got a phone call from my SR yesterday. (My husband has been able to talk to him twice before...I was feeling left out & a little jealous) It was really good to hear his voice. Says he is tired of being yelled at but that it is not as much as before. Hopeful that it will ease up a little now they are starting the 5th week he says. There's not much time to write letters but says he really appreciates all that we have sent to him. Asks for more pictures of home, his pets, his family. Passed PFA. Says hasn't had IT in about 4 days. (Hates IT!) Thinks he's going to make it to PIR...All in all a great phone call before he had to hang up. I just kept telling him how proud we were of him & that I know he can do it. (Didn't cry until after he hung up!) A great feeling of relief now that I've heard from him myself. Praise God!
Hi, momfromTx, I'm in Ship 4 Div 303, but your name caught my eye. We are from East Texas. That's great that you got to talk to your son. I feel like I'm the only one who hasn't gotten a call. My daughter was SIQ from wisdom teeth on the first round of calls. So I get excited over everyone else's calls!
That's kinda how I was feeling too. I sure hope you get to talk to her soon. What is SIQ? (Everytime I come here I learn a new acronym!)
Sick in quarters.
