Hi Kellee! Nice to meet you! My son Mitch also go there on the 21st! I'm having a bad day today..Really wish I would hear from him. Didn't think it would be this hard. Where are you guys from?
RobynLyn and SMaelsmom -
Hi!! We are from California. Nick left for O'Hare in the 21st at 1:30pm. The two of you now make 3 Mom's from our kids' DIV that received calls on Saturdays!!!! WHAAAA - where was mine?
We did get the form letter and 'the box' on Monday! I was shocked it came so fast.
RobynLyn - it's going to get better =o) When you get that first letter and see his hand writing you will feel better =o) This is a great sight and way to get support when we're having those bad days.
It's not really hitting me too much right now. Nick was in the Sea Cadets and he went to training camps roughly every 6 months - first one he was gone for 2 weeks, that was tough because he was 15 and never been away from home. They were all at bases here in California so he was 'hours' away but we had zero contact. I think it will hit me in another week or so.
Hi Kellee,
How did your son get involved with the Sea Cadets? We are in Washington and I have not heard of that. My son did not do the "kid in a box" - he gave his clothes away - we had him send his cell phone back in a prepaid flat rate box at the airport after he called us and let us know he landed. When he called on Saturday he let us know that he was doing better and things are getting a little easier (as he is starting to see how things work) - he is enjoying his new chapter and I am very proud of him.
This site is really great and it is nice to find other families that have kids in the same ship and division.
RobynLyn and Kellee - what school will your kids go to after they graduate boot camp? Did you guys already book flights and hotels? I heard on 4 people can attend from each recruit - my other kids are bummed they will not get to go but they understand. Are you getting rental cars or relying on public transportation?
Hi SMealsmom -
I found out about the Sea Cadets when I was checking out the Navy website. Nick decided at 15 that he wanted to join the Navy...so I pulled up the navy site and found it from there. It's like JROTC but Sea Cadets are actually a part of the Navy family and are commissioned to wear uniforms. Its a really good program =o) Due to his involvement, he will be a E-3 when he gets out of boot camp.
I just made reservations at the Navy Lodge today and I'm looking into flights. We are going to rent a car. Yes, they are only allowed 4 passes and it looks like this PIR will be BIG...I believe there is something like 11 divisions!!! There is a age cut off for kids....I'm sorry I cant remember it now, but I do know that our 6 1/2 year old will not need a pass. I hope that helps some.
Just a friendly reminder...i saw on the other post that you included your son's full name. N4M requests that we don't post full names on here security/privacy issues I believe is the reason.
I sent you a friend request =o)
Hello,
My son left for bootcamp on 8/21/12 and is also in ship 03 div 337. We got a call on Saturday morning as well. My son sounded much better than the first call he made when he arrived. Now we are waiting for the letter with the graduation date so we can purchase tickets. Were are you from? We are from Washington state.
Hi SMaelsMom! We are Massachusetts..We got our format letter last week..My sons PIR is 10/12..Most likely yours will be the same. Whats your sons name?
Hello,
My sons name is Sebastian Mael - what is your sons name? I have not received our letter yet :(
I keep watching the mail to se if it came, maybe tomorrow!! Each day has gootten a little easier knowing he is doing something he loves helps, but I miss him. I take comfort in keeping his Daffy with me and his blanket, and has elped me feel close to him. His brother and sisters miss him and his dad really missed him too! The count down begins and we are waiting until we can hug him and tell him we love him adn are so proud. We have written many letters to him but so far we have not received one back - I know he is busy and he will write soon - We are very proud of all the recruits that have made the decision to serve thier country.
Hope you have a great day!!
