Have any of you missed a call, if so how did you deal with it? I didn't expect myself to get so emotional about it.

I missed his first call when he got to his first port on deployment. I had a pretty hard time dealing with it, but I knew that he would be in touch because he was in port for a few days. In BC I didn't miss the one time he got to call me, but if that's what happened I imagine it would have been pretty rough.

How I deal with most things when I can't actually talk it out with him on the phone is I journal it. It's a journal that I I'm writing with the intention of giving him when he gets back from deployment. It's everything I think and would like to say and it really helps me to get the thoughts at least out of my head and on to paper. It makes everything seem more manageable.

I love the journal idea, my boyfriends still in basic and i'm so new to everything so i think thats why i was so upset to have missed the call. But thank you so much for the advice.

Seriously! Its almost traumatizing!

Thank you! :)

I missed my boyfriend's first phone call from boot camp earlier this week. I had been paranoid about keeping my phone on me, and on for two solid weeks. (I was a wreck when I had a 6 hour flight in the time frame he said he might get a call, so I changed my voice mail to a message for him for the duration, so he could at least hear ME) he didn't call while I was on the plane, but a few days later.  It just so happened that it was the first day of school. I had my phone on vibrate for literally 5 minutes and managed to miss both his calls. As the class was starting I ended up out in the hall "chopping some onions" while on the phone with my mother. I tried his parents first, and their line was busy, which meant the called them after me. After getting off the phone with her I waited a few minutes and tried his parents again. Once their line was freed up I was able to get his news second hand from his dad. Fortunately my bf left a couple sweet messages in my voice mail, so I have those to listen to :) Just keep writing him... a lot! The guys really look forward to hearing from their loved ones. Hang in there though, he'll be out of BC in a jiff, just keep yourself busy and the time will fly by! :)

I'm just really hoping he gets to call again!

As long as they don't get in any really big trouble, chances are, he will. It may be another couple weeks though.

I missed my boyfriend's call in boot camp. I was a wreck. I cried for nearly a week. It took me a long time to get over it. I was also so paranoid about having my phone on me at all times. I was on the phone with his mom and he called her about 5 mins after her and I got off the phone. I had the phone on vibrate while I was at the store and I thought I turned it back up when I was driving home but I didn't. My boyfriend left me a message though. He was so understanding. I beat myself up about it. Even today when I listen to that voicemail I still tear up! And that was months ago. You will be ok, just try to keep yourself busy and not to think about it. If you dwell on it, it makes things worse. I hope you feel better about it soon!
