Welcome to the discussion group for division 948.

Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the main wall to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion groups as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important
Every single concern is genuine
Every single member is important to us
We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Thanks ♥FireTeamLeaderWife♥ aka FTLW for starting this page!!!!

Morning Everybody ;)  Still no letter yet here in Louisiana, but I am hanging in there!  Do y'all have any idea what your SR's job is in this division?  I am thinking that my son is probably playing trombone, since he was in marching band all through middle and high school.  He was also in AFJROTC his freshman, sophomore, and senior years, so I guess it could be something else too!

Good Morning, Navy Moms ! I got very short call from my SR yesterday, they were needing more info for his clearance, he sounded so much better than the few days before... Sounded like himself.... He said they would be getting their mail and would be able to write letters this Sunday, and that he was playing bass drum, so I'm going to say this is the band division ? Not positive how all this work or how they are grouped together... He sounded really good, I was so happy to hear his voice and have it sound like him.... He said they had a couple ladies over them and they were meaner than the guys over them! hehe... But he said they were a good group, and he was making friends....

Oh you do not know how happy your post made me Arkansas Mom!!  I'm glad to know they can start writing tomorrow, so I won't be so disappointed when there is no letter in my mailbox yet!  I am so anxious to know if our boys are friends!  We will have to message each other when we find out!  Have a great long weekend!!

Good Morning all.  My daughter is in this same ship/division with a PIR date of 10/12/2012.  I am anxiously awaiting the first call.  Has anyone from this division rec'd a call yet? Does anyone know why this division is single, and why they do not have a brother division? Just spent my last two days in Cleveland at Navy Week.  The Blue Angels were practicing, I was able to talk with many sailors as well on the ships that were docked.  Met the Navy divers at the aquarium, and I was able to explore a ship inside and out. Sooo exciting!

kautsmom, The reason 948 does not have a brother division is because the 900 divisions are "performance" divisions. Not only are they going through BC like all the rest, but this is division is where the choir, flag bearers, drill team, body snatchers, greeters at ceremonies etc come from.

I know most of them are easy to figure out, but "body snatchers" probably got made you go hmm. They are the ones who "walk" the lines during ceremonies, when all are standing at attention. They check on the sailors, if they are looking like they are going to pass out, they remove them or help them out of formation to a place to "recover". If someone does pass out (which sometimes happens), they are the one who "drag" them to a place to recover, hence the name "body snatcher". You will see them at PIR walking between the sailors standing at attention.

They will probably perform at two PIR ceremonies before their PIR and also at their own. So not only are your "kids" learning the ins and outs of the Navy, they are learning another "job" at the same time. This is why they train "alone", no other divisions are doing these things.

Wow, how cool is that, kaitsmom!

Arkansas Mom, thank you so much for sharing your SR phone convo with us :-) I am glad to know that they will get their mail, and start writing tomorrow. I am going to go POSTAL on my mail man, if I don't recieve any mail next week! My SR has 20+ letters from me, so she will have a lot of writing to do :-).

Also, since it is a holiday this week, when should we expect a letter from our SR? I am thinking Thursday or Friday, but I just want to know what day I may need to go POSTAL......LOL :-)

No problem on sharing the phone call info, happy I had something good to share, hope everyone has a great long weekend !  I had been waiting all week thinking I'd be getting a letter by at least Friday, so glad I wasn't going to have to mug my mail carrier, LaSue, thats a dangerous job right now, haha!! Taylor also said "send me pictures of everyone, doing anything, anywhere, I miss you so much!!" Stay strong, Navy Family, we will get thru this together !!

Just wondering about this division being a performance division. Does that mean all the SR's in this division have performance jobs.?

From what I've heard it depends on what type of performance division they are.

Does anyone know what kind of performance div 948 is?  I've read that they rotate between 3 types: Ship's staff, Triple Threat, and the Sticks...
